DARKO comes in more bullish on Atlanta, hitting the over on their 43 win total with 46. I have concerns about their rim protection and creation but I can also see the case for how their motor, pace, and perimeter D power them to more regular season success than most expect.

Probably the worst Hawks jersey I’ve ever seen and that’s saying a lot.
Details of Specter Edition @NBA X @Nike — The designs are pulling in logos from the teams logos.

If I was one of these perimeter defense needy teams I’d check the price on Mo Gueye who is #74 in Darko DPM and is a legit impactful defender at +1.2 D-EPM and has a team option for $2.5m this season. A lot cheaper to get him versus the costs that teams are paying for others.

Is Jalen Johnson the ceiling-raiser Atlanta needs? In this episode: • The real impact of Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins • Why Okongwu’s breakout is finally here I chatted to @BTRowland about everything youtu.be/H9q2FT3LhNw

Really good thoughts here by Grant especially the part about the Hawks embracing physicality. It’s been an issue for years.
Trade reaction: I don’t love selling on Zacch this early in his career for a none “no brainer” type of return, but I am admittedly someone that remains optimistic in our young talent for longer than what is probably deserved in some cases, and it’s clear that Onsi is NOT afraid to move guys for value when it’s available instead of waiting too long and holding out hope like previous regimes would do Dort gives the Hawks yet ANOTHER physical, high level defender. A primary perimeter defensive rotation of Dyson/NAW/Dort/Wiggins is scary, and Kingston/Devin Carter (if he stays) have a lot of defensive promise as well. The league is becoming more physical (OG bullied us) and the Hawks have responded by adding guys like Dort and Zuby, who could both pass as NFL players I like Nembhard as a 3rd PG that takes care of the ball and can get the offense in their set/action, which has value, but I don’t view him as much more than that Would like the trade a little more if we didn’t have to give up two 2nds (I know they’re just 2nds… but just speaking from a value standpoint). Dallas made out like bandits flipping Nembhard and one 2nd for Zacch. Feel like they should’ve been the team to add more 2nds going to OKC.

Thought the Hawks needed one more good player to have a real shot to avoid the play in. Dyson NAW Dort Jalen Okongwu CJ Wiggins Jock Pretty solid top 8

Risacher was a pick made with Trae Young in mind. Once the Hawks moved on from Trae, a spot up wing didn’t fit anymore because they needed to scale up the ball handling to make up for losing Trae. And then they went on a run with 4 ball handlers. I like the bet for Dallas.

I feel pretty good projecting this season as the offensive leap for Dyson. He already showed signs of that by progressively making better decisions as a ball handler. The outlines are already there between that and a really nice floater.

Looking at ATL’s (still fluid) roster for next season, the single biggest issue is that Risacher/Kispert/Hield group commanding almost 25% of the cap for low production. If they could consolidate that into a good player(s) they’re much better positioned to fight for a top 6 seed.

I would’ve liked Veesar at pick 23.

Looking at the Hawks roster and thinking what they could be if they didn't have a 0% hit rate in the 2022-2024 drafts. Just one of those guys being a + rookie deal contributor significantly reduces the amount of work they need to do this offseason to round out the team.

Just from the strategy side alone, I really like ATL’s process in the Kingston pick. The big picture problem to be solved is finding reliable half court creation. Onsi clearly gets that. At least one guard in this tier is gonna be a huge hit and Kingston is as good a bet as any.
Mikel or Kingston for the Hawks is where I'm at and don't expect that to change. Burries is my guy in some ways and he fits really well, it's easy to see him succeeding running handoffs with Okongwu. But give me that creator bet.

After the Wiz gave Trae that deal, I feel like there’s an opportunity for the Hawks to circle back on AD and get him for not much if they want. Could address the center spot while leaving 8 for Kingston.

It’s interesting that Jaylen Brown had less estimated wins than Dyson or NAW. He played a handful fewer games, but still not what you’d expect given the MVP shouts. My read is there’s a price where the Hawks would take him, but they won’t pay a lot (i.e., they won’t give #8).
