Everything about the latest issue of @ancientXchanges is glorious, including the cover image, and especially the excerpt from my collaborator in all things Mary Ebbott's new translation for the stage of Iphigenia. exchanges.uiowa.edu/ancient/…

Is it just me that’s confused when I come across classic texts in ‘a new version by X contemporary playwright’?
Does it mean it’s an adaptation? Or it’s like a new translation? something in between?
What does a ‘new version’ mean exactly? How far is from a simple translation🤷♂️

It’s been an absolutely whirlwind January already, between #AIASCS2023 in sunny New Orleans, where I was honored to participate in a brilliant @ancientXchanges workshop on translation, and now I’m back in Baltimore and teaching a class about Classical Cannibalism!

I have a couple of poems in this edition — based on Horace and Ovid respectively though really versions rather than translations.
We're so pleased & honored to announce our fifth issue, INVENTION, is out in the world. Take a look if you feel like reinventing your relationship to the past...

So pleased to be a part of this issue with my rather experimental translations of Ono no Komachi and those she poetically corresponded with.

The Colin McEnroe Show (@wnprcolin) devoted a whole episode to the art of translating and I had so much fun discussing subtitling and dubbing, and sharing the show with @jenniferlcroft and @EmilyRCWilson, two translators I so deeply admire!
