I believe IDEs may not remain the primary interface for software development in the future. Instead, we'll likely shift to new interfaces that enable developers to manage and orchestrate higher-level workflows with a focus on supervision and collobaration.

This week is a lot to digest for Software Engineers. We're entering new paradigms—from conversational coding to delegating entire tasks to unsupervised agents that run in the background. We are also shifting from instructions based to tasks based interactions.

This coming Tuesday, I will do something I haven't done in years: teach a class with @wandb. We'll talk about - Hardware for LLMs - Building evals and "looking at your data" before picking models - LLM inference servers lu.ma/genai-class2

There are so much to be done in the UI/UX space for apps and systems built on top of LLMs, yet this hasn't been an area of focus. Looking forward to see more innovations in this space as new patterns emerges. I am glad that the folks at @langchain are taking this seriously.

Wrote some notes about SSMs and Mamba at blackbeelabs.notion.site/A-M… . SSMs could be a way to summarise a sequence into a state with a smaller memory budget, retaining performance at a lower cost. A summary on how to compute the convolutional kernel is below.

What's happening in the field of local language model inference is very exciting thanks to initiatives such as @ollama. Designing hybrid applications could provide a lot of value by mixing both inferences system and switch on demand.
