Bull market, bear market I could never remember which was which and here is the way to remember it: when bulls attack they swipe up, and when bears attack they swipe down — just like their respective markets. #animals #finance #investing

Data avoids arguments. It's why I love this quote from W. Edwards Deming: "Without data you're just another person with an opinion." Or as Jim Barksdale, former Netscape CEO, said: "If we have data, let's look at data. If all we have are opinions, let's go with mine."

Fahrenheit and Celsius. It's interesting to think that for most of history there was no comparable way to say how hot or cold something was. I like to roughly convert between them using minus 32, divide by 2 (or a little less to be closer) and vice versa.

Halfalogue: hearing only half of a conversation. Like that time when you couldn't concentrate thanks to the person on a call right next to you. Hearing only one side of a conversation, it turns out, can be more distracting than hearing the whole dialogue. Via @LLEmberson

Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of human needs. Maslow continued to refine his original framework. For all its flaws — it always provokes discussion and counter-arguments in my experience — it's remained a clarifying and remarkably enduring model.

Thought experiment: if you were to borrow something, would it make a difference if you returned a different one? If you borrowed my car, you could return it with a different tank of fuel (fungible) but if you returned a different used car (non-fungible) that would be rather odd.
