Insane that California has the general public vote on stuff like this. Hey random guy on the street, should we give $8.4 Billion to a handful of immunology nonprofits?
Something feels a bit iffy about California prop 38. Doing a popular vote proposed by a 3 person non-profit that gives said non profit $4.2B from the public! I hope Gary is great and knows how to spend $4.2B well because it’s done.

California: please vote on which of these 10 new taxes to add to the 10 new taxes from last year Idaho:
BREAKING: Idaho voters projected to choose the Winchester Model 1873 as their official state gun. 63% chance.

I find it significant that the most AI-pilled people I know use AI for basically everything…except for writing It’s remarkably consistent. Why? Because to write is to think. And outsourcing your critical thinking to AI is intellectual suicide

I love that Halloween is immediately followed by daylight saving time. First we confront our mortality, then we fiddle with the microwave.

A huge part of why formal education works is the "formal": accountability structures, classmates you want to see, teachers you don't want to disappoint. You need all of that if you want completion rates above 10%.
There is something worth investigating around the failures of MOOCs. The idea is so good: Anyone can take a harvard course! I myself took many, then mostly lost interest in the format, and began instead to just do the readings in the syllabi without watching the lecture.

Pray for my immortal soul. I have 75 intercessory agents pleading with God to spare me from eternal damnation at a rate of ~500 Our Fathers/minute. Eventually a pope will declare them ensouled, retroactively validating their prayers. Aiming to spend 60 years in Purgatory tops.

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…
