So what did everyone think this graffiti, gracing a wall in Vilnius 🇱🇹 since 2016, actually represents? Just some wild artist's fantasy? Anyway, contact our 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪 fortune telling salon for more eerily accurate geopolitical predictions.

"Republicans are heading into a midterm with voters angry about prices, angry about corruption, and trusting Democrats more than Republicans on the economy. Much of that is self-inflicted, and the tariffs are the biggest self-inflicted wound of all." 👀
Joe Biden surrounded himself with people who embraced modern monetary theory, a heterodox academic fad that taught you could write as many blank checks as you liked without the consequence of inflation. Larry Summers, Bill Clinton’s Treasury secretary, warned Democrats not to go down that road. Conservative economists warned Democrats not to go down that road. Biden listened instead to the modern monetary theorists and their loud defenders online, ultimately signing a $1.9 trillion spending bill on top of everything else, and gave the country inflation that peaked at 9.1 percent in June 2022. Democrats paid for it at the ballot box. Unfortunately, President Trump has made a similar mistake. He has surrounded himself with men who staked out heterodox views on the economy decades ago and now treat his administration as a laboratory. Peter Navarro has spent his career pushing trade theories that nearly the entire economics profession rejects, and he once propped up his own books by quoting an expert named Ron Vara, who turned out to be Peter Navarro. Outside the White House, Oren Cass, a lawyer and former management consultant with no formal training in economics, founded a think tank, gave himself the title of chief economist, and has become the most prominent defender of the tariffs on the right. Around them is a chorus of loud social media defenders who insist tariffs are a tax on foreigners. The MMT crowd promised that massive spending would not cause inflation. It did. The tariff crowd promised that tariffs would not raise prices or hurt wages. They did both. We no longer have to argue about it as a matter of theory. We have the data. The tariffs raised prices and held down wages. The administration now refuses to change course. That is arrogance. It is also bad politics. The tariff regime has turned into a favor generator, with exemptions going to whoever hires the right lobbyist. Voters now rank corruption as a top concern for the first time in a generation. Republicans are heading into a midterm with voters angry about prices, angry about corruption, and trusting Democrats more than Republicans on the economy. Much of that is self-inflicted, and the tariffs are the biggest self-inflicted wound of all. ewerickson.substack.com/i/21…

Rep. Michael McCaul R-TX criticizes Trump's diesel fuel deal with Russia
Through the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, we gave the president significant authorities and leverage against China and Russia to bring Putin’s war to an end with a negotiated settlement. Unfortunately, while I understand the desire to bring down diesel prices, I am concerned the lifting of sanctions on Russian oil will only fund the Kremlin’s war machine—emboldening more violence and destruction, as we have seen in recent days.

Best analysis I have read about this so-called diesel deal between Putin and Trump. It’s not about diesel, it’s about Trump people getting into business with Russia for their own benefit while blaming Ukraine for attacking Russian refineries. phillipspobrien.substack.com…

Putin throws lifeline to try to save Trump in the midterms. In return, American dollars go to Russia and get put toward killing innocent Ukrainians. Trump/Russia right out in the open.

And yet it failed to predict inflation when tried in the Biden years. Stephanie Kelton adamantly insisted it was transitory and inconsequential.
Replying to @EWErickson
MMT definitely predicts the inflation...this is just uninformed propaganda

Peace never comes through weakness. Today, representatives of the U.S. Congress were in Kyiv – a bipartisan delegation – and I am grateful to them for visiting Ukraine at such a difficult time. They asked: what is needed to end the war? The answer must be strong. There must be sanctions under the Lindsey Graham bill, there must be support for Ukraine in protecting lives, and there must be pressure on Russia for its war. And today, there was a conversation between the leaders of America and Russia. A conversation that leads to something different. Recently, there was a European decision to lift sanctions on Russian oligarchs. Since then, Russian strikes and the torment of people have only increased. This past week alone, there was a brutal Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, aerial bombs were dropped on Kramatorsk – on ordinary city buses – and there have been constant attacks on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure and on the life-sustaining infrastructure in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, and our other cities. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded. The Russians are compensating for their inability to achieve their objectives on the battlefield with this kind of terror. This year, Russia is weaker on the battlefield than at any other point in the war. That is why Putin is relying on terror. That is why he is relying on attempts to strike backroom deals to secure some form of pressure relief for Russia, in order to buy more time and more opportunities for war. Any easing of sanctions against Russia without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement with Russia is an obvious weakness. It plays into Russia’s hands – allowing it to kill more, wage war for longer, have even less respect for America, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world. Ukraine is ready to take symmetrical de-escalatory steps, and the American team knows our position. Our strikes on Russian oil refineries and other oil facilities are a response to Russia’s years-long campaign of terror against Ukraine’s energy sector. Ukraine will not set Russian oil refineries on fire if Russia does not destroy our energy infrastructure. This is the kind of agreement we are proposing to America, and we believe the United States has enough power to achieve such a compromise. Gifts to Putin will not bring peace or any benefit to the civilized world. Russia will “repay” the diesel with further terror and perfidy. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged. What is needed is real de-escalation with Russia on a reciprocal basis. We count on America’s fair support for our defense of life, for our defense of people in Ukraine – and on the United States having a correspondingly strong conversation with Russia. A strong one, not a weak one.

Only Trump can save Putin. Goodbye to US sanctions. Every GOP running for office must be confronted with this egregious act of supporting genocidal war in Ukraine, especially at the moment when Putin shifted all his fire power to killing civilians.

Trump saves the day for Putin. Just as Ukraine was changing the direction of the war by inflicting real economic pain on Putin by hitting his oil refineries, Trump steps in and agrees to buy Russian diesel. Now Trump can say that Ukraine is bombing American interests and they better stop. Up until today, there was a real chance of an unspoken aerial cease fire if Russian could no longer tolerate the pain, but that has now disappeared

Donald Trump said no more forever wars. Where are we? He said he'd lower prices on day one. Where are we? He said he'd end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. Where are we? There is a reason he dropped those campaign promises. He never meant them in the first place.

70% of Americans support Ukraine. Propping up Putin’s war economy is morally wrong as he uses that money to bomb cities. The President’s policies towards Russia and Ukraine are failures. We need moral clarity not moral ambiguity.

Today, Russia expressed its thanks for the lifting of sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five glide bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. As of now, sadly, twelve people have been confirmed killed, including three children. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Another fourteen people have been injured, and two of them are in critical condition – the doctors are fighting to save their lives. The status of twelve more people who may have been there is still being verified. All emergency services are at the scene, and search-and-rescue operations are underway. Overnight, thirteen of our regions came under attack. Residential buildings, infrastructure, and railway facilities have been damaged. Last night confirmed once again that in Russia, they take any easing of pressure to mean they can keep fighting, to mean they can keep dropping bombs on cities. Different signals are needed. Russia must understand that it needs to stop the war, and for that to happen, Russia must feel its losses. Right now, it is our long-range capabilities that are ensuring this. And we will respond to Russian strikes. I thank everyone who is helping.

"For my friends, anything. For my enemies, the law."
The Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022 prohibits the import of diesel into the United States unless the president submits to Congress a certification that Russia has agreed to withdraw from Ukraine, recognized Ukraine's sovereignty, and poses no threat to NATO. How is this consistent with the law?

Seventy years ago today, America welcomed my dad (pictured center) and his family as Palestinian Christian refugees. It was the greatest blessing of his life. Born Attallah Amash in 1940, my dad had an extremely difficult childhood. He was a victim of war, expelled from his home at just eight years old in 1948, moving from place to place to find shelter and living off scraps. He never had new clothes except what was provided to him through charity. In the few years (on and off) that he was able to attend school, the other children didn’t want to associate with him. He couldn’t even play soccer with them because he didn’t have shoes. His father made him sell coffee and tea as a young boy just to make a few cents that his dad would take. The first time my dad had a decent meal was when a family member died (an uncle, who lived and died in a dog house) and neighbors delivered food in his memory. Even before the conflict, my dad’s family lived in abject poverty. His grandma, grandpa, aunt, and uncle died of starvation under Ottoman rule. They lived in horrendous conditions among rats. They were abused, uneducated, prone to superstitions, and struggled with mental illness. The Amash family’s misfortune turned into triumph when Rev. & Mrs. Ralph Wagoner (pictured right), of the Muskegon Church of the Brethren, made the sacrifice to sponsor them to come to the United States. The incredible generosity of the Wagoners gave new life to the Amashes. I’m forever grateful to the Wagoners for making my life in America possible. I’m forever grateful to America for opening its arms to poor refugees like my dad’s family. This story is why I so dearly love our Constitution, which defends life, liberty, and property. It’s why I wanted to serve in Congress: to support, with my voice and votes, the great principles that define America. I was honored that my community here in Michigan gave me that opportunity.

An ICE agent is in custody at a hospital after police say he was shot after assaulting an elderly man and his daughter at a home in Fresno. Fearing for their safety, officers say the 72-year-old man pulled out a gun and shot 32-year-old David Gonzalez when he got physically aggressive with the man and his daughter.
