User @amlabella returned to blogging on @giantbomb and they want to welcome you to a discussion on the PS1 games they have played recently!
For any retro gamers that are itching to talk about Baroque or King's Field this is for you!

ALT A screenshot of Incredible Crisis by developer Polygon Magic for the PS1. the screenshot depicts the player completing a dance sequence in an office surrounded by a female boss and other NPCs.
ALT A screenshot from King's Field 1 in the US. The game shows the player navigating a grey dungeon from the first-person perspective. This is the first US release from 1996 titled King’s Field, not the original Japan-only 1994 release also titled King’s Field.
ALT A screenshot of Wipeout 2097 by developer Psygnosis. the screenshot shows the player in 12th place and controlling a futuristic yellow and blue racing craft.
Here is the second entry in my PlayStation Pastime series in which I check out PS1 games I missed out on. In this edition I look at a Japan-only dungeon crawler, an iconic PlayStation racer, the origin story of FromSoftware, and more! giantbomb.com/profile/amlabe…

Friend of the site, @amlabella wrote a brief blog with a fun video on UFO 50 and has taken up the herculean task of reviewing every "game" in UFO 50!
See which games they loved and loathed, and share your own reviews, over on @giantbomb!

ALT A game in UFO 50 meant to look and play like a classic dungeon crawler. The main character is in red and is fighting two orcs in front of them.
I've been inspired to take my very first foray into video production with a review of Barbuta from the incredible UFO 50 by @mossmouth, @strotchy, and company! The goal is to do a short review of all 50 games over time. youtu.be/4cECZ5avniY
King's Field has been vanquished! 💪It certainly wasn't the easiest game to get into and it runs really poorly, but boy did I fall in love with it nonetheless. I can see some of that Souls magic in there, warts and all. Time to jump into the sequel!
Surprisingly I'm enjoying Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora a lot so far after a few hours (it came out on Steam a few days ago), and the visuals are the obvious standout. This is easily one of the best-looking games I've ever played and I can't stop opening photo mode.
These indie games just continue to kill it in 2024. I'm a few hours into Nine Sols and it's been fantastic so far. And the visuals... astounding.
1000xRESIST does so much with its art style; what an incredible looking game (I'm sure I'll have a lot to say about its narrative once I beat it. After 4 hours in I'm captivated).

User @amlabella joins @JeffGrubb and @Tolkoto in praising Gamera 2000 with the first edition of their "PlayStation Pastime" blog post on @giantbomb!
Read about that game, Gungage, iS: internal section, Panzer Bandit, AND MORE over here!

I've been on a big retro kick lately (due in large part to @SeanSeansonYT's wonderful YouTube videos), so I've decided to start a new blog series in which I check out a variety of PS1 games I missed out on in my youth. Here's the first entry! lootall.wordpress.com/2024/0…

My wife and I have released the second episode of Festive Flops, a podcast in which we discuss Christmas romcoms gone wrong. Give it a listen!
Anthony and Jillian are back for the second episode of Festive Flops! Join them as they discuss "Christmas wishes," cartoonish stalkers, and the most generic Christmas song ever written in the 2019 movie Christmas Crush. podcasters.spotify.com/pod/s…
Shout out to @Tolkoto for mentioning @SeanSeansonYT recently on Giant Bomb - it seems like an awesome channel for obscure and Japan-only PS1 games. I'm now putting Brightis on my Steam Deck thanks to the latest video. And Gamera 2000 of course; that game looks like it kicks ass.

I often hear people say the @playdate community is nice. But what does that really mean?
My hope is that people who decide to poke their head in, to check the temperature, can find a cozy place to land.
Anthony talks about finding that in much more.
Give it a read.

I've been spending a lot of time with my Playdate over the last few weeks, so I wrote a bunch of words about it and ended my (very long) blog post hiatus. lootall.wordpress.com/2024/0…

The Playdate now has decent availability and you don't need to wait weeks or months for it to ship! As a result, @giantbomb user @amlabella decided to revisit the device and check up on how it has been supported well after its splashy release!
