Returning to the issue of these new times where there is no horizon. It no longer matters today how much you spend on your children’s education. Besides the great mess in the world, there is also a mess in the minds of this generation. What is tangible to them are the gains from the internet. These gains have also brought a new kind of paradigm in which this generation does not want to give up its freedom. They want to do what they like, when they want, and get paid for it. It is an evolution of labor relations that has advanced faster in their minds than in the real world. Factory-floor workloads no longer seem to fit this new generation, children of social media. There are parents pouring bags of money into their children’s education, only for them to have no idea where they fit in the job market at the end. There is an accumulation of capital outside of job creation and productivity, and that is a fact. Nobody seems to care. Something concerning. Bets, influencers, speculators, or some app-based activity, in what world do the minds and the future of your children revolve? Never in history has there been such a strong trend toward mergers and acquisitions, shrinking the market in every sector.
The logic seems the same: land a big payday, buy the competition, raise profits, and keep new players out.
Just as the new generation avoids the effort of production, companies do the same, and unfortunately the world does not seem to reward the exceptions. A large part of the global political crisis comes from this m, from the uncertainties and the high anxiety it generates, since few can see the problem, which goes far beyond immigration and other issues. We are living through a moment of revolution, but one in which the well-being and future of generations is not the priority.

Demis Hassabis on choosing what’s worth spending your life building in a world changing this fast: “Going after hard problems and deep problems, it’s no more difficult in some ways than going after a shallower, simpler, more superficial problem. They’re just differently difficult.” “Given life’s very short and you only have so much time and energy, you might as well put your life force into something that will really make a difference.” “If you start off on a deep tech journey today... you’re talking about a 10-year journey for true deep tech. So now you have to consider AGI appearing in the middle of that journey.” “Imagine what that world would look like and then build something that would be useful if that comes in halfway through.”

Until we solve the alignment problem at its source, AI models will continue to optimize for the wrong goals, and increasingly impactful real-world consequences may occur, beyond the ones described here. This is a critical issue I discussed in my blogpost last month, which is cited in the article: fortune.com/2026/10/16/opena…

A topic I have long thought requires greater attention and action: strengthening international law and enforcement mechanisms to address autonomous botnets, particularly those under hostile state control. South Africa is under cognitive warfare siege from at least three hostile states, at my estimation. Existing international law frameworks were largely designed to facilitate cooperation between states, not to enable rapid, coordinated intervention against decentralised, self-replicating networks operating across multiple jurisdictions. There is also no central international authority empowered to investigate, seize infrastructure and disable compromised devices across national borders. This article makes the case for this and other interventions.

On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, I offer warm congratulations to His Excellency President @PaulKagame and the government and people of Rwanda on securing a 10-year agreement to host the Formula 1 African Grand Prix. South Africa shares in the pride with which Rwanda is preparing to fly the chequered flag for our continent with the hosting of a globally prestigious event at the planned Bugesera circuit from the early 2030s. This contract is a recognition of the capabilities of the Rwandan nation and of our continent more broadly. As host of the first Grand Prix on African soil in 1993, and organiser of other major global events, South Africa will be happy to provide any support we may be invited to share. The F1 African Grand Prix is another lustrous addition to Rwanda’s growing collection of top international events, including the UCI-classified Tour du Rwanda cycling race. Congratulations, Rwanda. You are in pole position to make all of Africa proud and take motorsport to new heights.

…no disrespect, but this Nobel choice feels completely out of touch with how the actual world works. Hall and Woodford’s framework assumes a frictionless fantasy where central bank "forward guidance" and rational "consumption smoothing" run the show. That might make sense in elite Western bubbles, but it completely fails the large part of humanity living across Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. How can a model claim to unlock global macroeconomics when it entirely ignores 1) informal cash economies that don't care about central bank benchmark rates, 2) foreign debt traps that crush local currency values overnight and 3) external shocks from Wall Street and biased rating agencies that instantly wipe out domestic monetary policy? Rewarding a theory that treats the Global South as an invisible footnote is simply an academic containment. It is fine-tuning policy levers for Western economies that are structurally heading downward anyway, while completely misreading the real engine rooms of global population and resource wealth...
BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford “for microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation.” #NobelPrize

A post explaining a disinformation tactic prevalent in South African social media spaces and how it can and must be defeated. ✍🏽 There is a disinformation and social media manipulation tactic called "mass brigading," often used by political parties and "movements" to silence dissent. It involves a group of users banding together to discredit someone expressing a different opinion by flooding their comment sections with negative comments and insults. You know the usual culprits: the anti-democratic forces seeking to sow discord, polarise, incite and normalise violence, stifle democracy, and encourage you not to vote. Mass brigading works because no one likes to be piled on. People self-censor to escape it. DO NOT BE FEARFUL. DO NOT SHRINK. DO NOT SELF-CENSOR. NEVER FOLD. I honestly couldn’t give two whatnots about being mass-brigaded. Come one, come all. Bring uBobby noSnoopy wakini futhi. BABIZE. Continue and, thanks for the engagement and boosting my views opposing your need to destabilise South Africa in the Twitter algorithm, now more will see it. Basically, and in French: f them and their Mama. In uMageba: Ngeke ngizwe ngawe. Mass brigading can be defeated by refusing to be silenced. Hundreds of accounts with 2 followers, no profile picture, anonymous, flooding your mentions? Those are not real people but unthinking minions sent to silence you. Will you be silenced and let them win? Could never be you, my darling. Stand firmly on principle and refuse to budge. Stiffen your backbone and SPEAK (WRITE). Our democracy will hold. Hugs and kisses. Country Duty activated. HAAK 🇿🇦💪
