Ever wonder why tRNAs have introns? Our brand new PNAS paper suggests it may be because a tRNA methylase needs the intron in tyrosine tRNA. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.25…

Contrary to popular belief, what is important in science is as much its spirit as its product: it is as much the openmindedness, the primacy of criticism, the submission to the unforeseen, however upsetting, as the result, however new that may be.– F Jacob

"If you can generate humour, you're half way to generating discoveries."
Gary Ruvkun asserts that comedy is a form of intelligence. He employs humour and play to help his colleagues overcome their fears and facilitate new discoveries.
As today marks the practical joker's birthday, we can expect a great deal of laughter will be heard coming from his laboratory.
Ruvkun and Victor Ambros were jointly awarded the 2024 medicine prize for their discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
Keep an eye out for a new interview featuring Gary Ruvkun - coming soon!
