I have a bunch of degrees and a bunch of chronic illnesses. I tried to be a professor for a while, but illness won. I hate this site and can’t seem to leave.

4,500 jobs gone, what a win for filmmaking 👍
Skydance’s David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz have sent a memo to employees about the merged Paramount-Warner Bros., acknowledging that layoffs will be part of the process: • “Integrating two companies will bring change, including difficult decisions that affect our workforce. We are committed to handling this process thoughtfully and respectfully.” • Paramount execs have said they are targeting more than $6B in annualized cost savings over three years, with some of those savings coming from layoffs. • The merger could result in the loss of some 4,500 film and TV jobs in L.A. alone over three years, per a Los Angeles County report. variety.com/2026/film/news/s…

Death penalty states are incredibly secretive about every step of the lethal injection process. Why? According to @lawproflain, it’s because lethal injection has the best political optics—as long as people don’t know much about what’s happening behind the scenes. motherjones.com/criminal-jus…

Damn, more people on this site should make use of “hide reply.” (Of course, if people actually used it, the site owner would probably take it away.)

The language rape apologists use to trivialize rape follows a few consistent patterns/tropes. Learning to identify them can help you spot rape apologists and learn not to waste time on their sealioning/concern trolling. A thread. 🧵

Wanting to keep everything behind closed doors, wanting to act as if rape is a purely personal, purely individual harm, is what keeps rape as a *systemic problem* from being treated as such.

Demanding punishment for a rapist is disrespectful to his victim but opening the severity of the assault into discussion is totally okay

violent vigilante fantasies is when you unsubscribe from some guy's YouTube channel
Now people genuinely have more context about gellar and if they want to engage with him but honestly. How the fuck did this benefit anyone especially the victim. People just want to indulge in their own violent vigilante fantasies for the sake of "protecting victims"

haven’t read a single Gellar defence that didn’t sound spooked about ten years not being enough time to get away with it
my take on the Gellar thing is that its basically all performative. revealed 10 years later for discourse points with their mutuals with no input from victim; most reactions are about seeing Gellar get “punished” by losing subs/work/money, etc. justice nowhere to be seen.

what the actual fuck
US road rage killer's sentence quashed because AI video of victim was shown in court bbc.in/4rGHDS4
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The sentence was thrown out because an appeals judge ruled that the video should not have been shown in the original trial. BBC misleadingly implies that the sentence was quashed because of the persuasive impact of the video itself. bbc.com/news/articles/…

gonnna ruffle a few feathers with this but seems there's a lot of people who are ACAB not because of police brutality/racism but because they're opposed to any accountability at all and these people are quick to label survivors as carceral for wanting any actual consequences

They’re bringing back Ugly Laws and every time you insist we aren’t normal and shouldn’t be in whatever spaces you are bc we’re “annoying” or not politically palatable only helps them

the records were exposed as part of an investigation into the university’s mishandling of sexual assault cases, that’s what you’re framing as “settled quietly between the parties in question” btw
i dont rly like or respect jacob geller particularly much but i just dont get what the purpose of dragging a 10y old transgression that was settled quietly between the parties in question is. imagine being the victim and seeing a random classmate dragging your trauma 10 years on

The lifetime cost for a rape victim of a single rape on average is $122k, at the bare minimum I think abusers should be expected to pay that before I will entertain any conversation around "rehabilitation"

Didn’t you know kicking rapists out of orgs is carceral??? We’re supposed to center their “rehabilitation” at the expense of everyone else! (& by rehab I mean do nothing to hold them accountable & tell everyone they need to understand this persons trauma. They didnt mean to rape)
ask someone to simply kick a rapist out of a school club or stop hanging out with them and suddenly it’s “we can’t discard community members :-(“

stop saying “it’s been ten years!!!! he’s reckoned with it!!!!” if rape victims are forced to live with being raped for the rest of our lives, rapists should also be forced to deal with the fact they’re rapists for the rest of their lives.

other issues I have with his statement: frames the rape as something that made him a better person, describes it as something HE needs to recover from, emphasises perceived exonerative factors (I cooperated, I agreed with her). shocked more don’t see how self-serving this is.
disagree that jacob geller put out “a perfect statement” when the first thing he did in it was assert that his victim didn’t want this to be known, which is something he couldn’t possibly know since he then acknowledges he hasn’t spoken to her since the assault

“You mean rapists shouldn’t be allowed to become wildly successful public figures with immense social and financial power?” Yes. Literally yes. The reason why is because when rapists gain social power, they gain an army of fans just like you who they can deploy to defend them.
