Australian taxpayers should never have been put in the position of funding an organisation that spreads hate and undermines social cohesion. The Daily Telegraph deserves credit for exposing this scandal, but the fact that Jewish leaders had to raise the alarm before the government acted points to a serious failure in the vetting process. The community deserves answers about how this grant was approved in the first place. There must be accountability for that failure. Australians will rightly be asking how many other organisations spreading hate are receiving taxpayer funding. Government funding is a privilege, not an entitlement. Proper scrutiny must take place before a single dollar of public money is approved.”
