Most often it is typically that closer connection to your characters – that depth which makes them feel like a real person, like we are along for the ride in this story and are right there seeing it unfold, not being told about it and having everything summarized for us. I love to help authors expand what they know about their characters, get to the root of them, and allow for that first person experience (no matter the tense) to be at the forefront. While editing, I also take a close look at the pacing; what is slowing down the story and what is possibly moving too fast!
