The people protesting, many of them Jewish, are protesting against Starmer and the UK’s arming of Israel, a foreign government. They are not protesting against British Jews. It is Starmer here who is conflating British Jews with Israel - and doing the antisemites’ work for them.
I urge anyone thinking about protesting this weekend to recognise and respect the grief of British Jews.
This is a moment of mourning. It is not a time to stoke tension and cause further pain. It is a time to stand together.
We are a country that welcomes all people, no matter their faith, to stand under the same flag as neighbours and friends.
That is who we are and who we will always be. Hatred and violence will never win.

I wish people would read the detail: the framework of access to an abortion – including the need for two doctors’ signatures, and the time limits at which terminations can be carried out – will *remain the same* and doctors who act outside the law will still face the threat of prosecution.
The issue is that the women - almost always vulnerable as a result of domestic abuse and violence, human trafficking and sexual exploitation or women who have given birth prematurely - will no longer be at risk of being thrown into cells.

A group of settlers just lynched Hamdan Ballal, co director of our film no other land. They beat him and he has injuries in his head and stomach, bleeding. Soldiers invaded the ambulance he called, and took him. No sign of him since.

This is Hossam’s team, and we are sharing his final message :
“If you’re reading this, it means I have been killed—most likely targeted—by the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years old—a college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tents—anywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my people’s side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at rest—something I haven’t known in the past 18 months . I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.

ALT One year on since the escalating violence in the Middle East, we continue to call for an end to the conflict and stand in solidarity with our friends and colleagues fleeing war or detained without charge. We remember those in our global theatre community we have lost to the conflict and remain unapologetic in our stance against genocide and against the violence enacted towards civilians.
ALT Tara Theatre has always been an organisation led by compassion and activism. We call on our fellow arts organisations to stand with us against oppression, resist the pressure to censor voices and condemn the continued acts of violence we are seeing daily. We reiterate our calls for a ceasefire and will remain proactive in our stance to give platforms and voices to communities that need to be heard. We will be holding our next community space in our building at the end of October. We hope you will hold space with us there.
