Remember for spring 2027 Hydrangea color depends on soil pH, which controls how much aluminum the roots absorb. Acidic soil (pH 5.0–5.5) unlocks aluminum for blue blooms; alkaline soil (pH 7.0+) blocks it for pink; transitional soils produce purple. 🌸 did you know You can get all pink flowers by planting hydrangeas in concrete pots or near stone walkways. Cement and mortar leach lime into the soil, keeping the pH high and blocking the aluminum.

This was painted in the 1420/1430s in a workshop in Flanders. The level of detail in the Ghent Alterpiece was very much unmatched at the time. Jan van Eyck truly was one of the greatest painters ever.

Only 46 measures. Approximately 4 minutes. Mozart wrote “Ave Verum Corpus” in June 1791 — near the end of his life. So simple it's almost bare, yet it contains the heavens. Leonardo Bernstein conducted it at Waldsassen Cathedral in 1990 — slowly, lovingly, as if unwilling to leave each note. A miracle in a small package.

White paint. Monet used it for snow. Sargent used it for sunlit walls in Capri. In Staircase in Capri (1878), the walls may look white, but Sargent uses shades of grey and violet to paint the shadows. He was just 22 when he visited Capri. The trip opened up new possibilities. Monet painted snow. Sargent painted the Mediterranean sun. Both knew that white is never just white.

Has any artist ever defined a decade like Patrick Nagel did the 1980s?
