Registrations for @altctrlorg are now publicly open! It is an independent event by passionate WordPress community people, focused on free speech and governance, to be held in Basel, Switzerland, on the evening of the first day of WordCamp Europe, 6th June.
We filled the original venue space on Day 1 with 100+ tickets. Now we’ve secured a bigger space at Klara 13 (200 capacity).
🎟️
Tickets are open to the public, don’t wait, get yours now and share this post! altctrl.org/events/6-june-20…

Will you be in Switzerland's beautiful city of Basel on June 6th for @altctrlorg? Vlad will be there, not only to talk about the Pledge, but also to start a conversation about collective governance of Open Source projects. We hear there will be delicious dumplings too ;)

I wanted a list of all active projects shifting away from MM involvement. Couldn't find one, so made one. drzimp.com/shiftwp/ .. Pass it around, let me know what needs to be added @DuaneStorey @altctrlorg @thewpcc

Wordpress needs more than just a replacement for .org. It needs the ability to overhaul the entire distribution model.
The APIs for .org were invented years ago. There’s no validation that what you asked for is what you got. And it’s coded into #WordPress.
We need alternatives.

Since w.org (allegedly) stole and nulled the ACF Pro plugin, I found this particularly funny. web.archive.org/web/20241123…

I had forgotten about the drupal theme issue. They basically stole drupal’s release thunder from their new theme, even after asking to use it and being basically asked not to, as far as I recall.

RepoMan merely extends the native WP plugin search, for now we are manually adding GitHub plugins to the internal json file - to get new version updates it relies on Git Updater support as shown in this video (video #2 coming soon re: version updates): xitter.cf/jessuppi/status/185062…

You do not need to distribute physical copies of GPL software or sell support in order to charge for software. The FSF's own FAQ covers this: gnu.org/licenses/old-license…

Damn, Woo Devs aren't liking a free plugin replacing their paid one. What a shame. Autocrattic getting railroaded by the community. What a surprise.
