as of 1/19/2023, it appears Twitter is officially banning all third party applications. Once they stop working, I won't be around much. alpuzz@mastodon.social

So, just had my screen reader’s AI describe a chipmunk as a goldfish in a fishtank… This is why folks should still be manually describing the images they post… #a11y

I’ve been testing this and it’s pretty cool. You can make calls and get iMessage/SMS notifications from your iPhone and reply to them from your PC. The bad part is all Apple’s locked down APIs. This works because of Bluetooth profiles allowing notifications. Can’t sync messages.
the Phone Link app for Windows 11 has now been updated to support iOS. You'll get the iPhone button here once Microsoft unlocks more people into the preview theverge.com/2023/2/28/23618…

Love this!
My young nephew wants to know what a Describer does, so I’m going to write some description with him to help him figure it out. Any #Blind kids out there want a toy, or cartoon character, or movie poster described by a fellow kid? #AudioDescription #BlindTwitter

Damn so&so @brianhartgen: Today is a sad day. It now seems as though all third party apps or clients which access the Twitter platform are now violating Twitters Terms of Service. This includes almost all ways in which blind people access the platform.

🧵 @@elonmusk First the #Accessibility team disappeared now access through third party apps that gave the #Blind #Access itself in the early days of Twitter's life will cease to be. That's not exactly a great way to create a community that's #Accessible and #Inclusive for all.

Having heard nothing from @Meetup @meetup_support, I have canceled my local accessibility meet-up membership. Somewhat easy since the group was pandemic-dormant, but I still paid for the account. The sign-on process with the overlay was a mess, which validated my decision.

Definitely the future of television I had in mind was me having to google every movie I want to watch to see if it’s currently in one of its one-month windows on any of the seven streaming services I pay for. This is way easier than buying a DVD. I love it.

Sighted people amuse me. "Apple, we demand a display that's always on!" "Okay, here ya go. Unless your battery is dead, the screen is always on." "Whoa! That's way too 'on'. We meant, you know, kinda on, not on on." "But we did this for your watches, and you loved it. What?!"

The good, NFL has a tab stop for the control needed to change audio feeds when listing to games in their media player. The bad, it is nameless to screen readers. The need, @nfl, please work on #accessibility of your overall mobile and web experiences.

For anyone wondering about how @Grammarly are going with #A11y, I asked them. TL;DR: They actively discriminate: "Thank you for contacting Grammarly. We do not offer integration with screen readers at this time. We do not have this feature on our active development roadmap"

The word hyphenated doesn't have a hyphen, yet non-hyphenated does have a hyphen. This has to be the maddest thing in the English language. A word that contradicts its own rule

Quick call for participants: we want to improve the accessibility of developer tools of @MSEdgeDev. We are testing and are compliant, but we want to interview developers with different needs (keyboard users, partially sighted people…) to serve you better. Please DM for more!

One of the challenges of WFH as a blind person is making sure that my face is in shot of my webcam before meetings. Today I'm releasing Can You See Me, a simple tool that uses on-device computer vision to give verbal guidance on webcam placement. CanYouSeeMe.app
