🚨NEW: @SenWarren focused on validators (nodes) not being subject to the same AML laws as banks.
She asked @wallyadeyemo if she sent him $1K in cryptocurrency, is it possible that Iran is the “validator” of that transaction. Adeyemo said it’s definitely possible.
Warren responded: “So Iran, which is subject to all kinds of sanctions, are making millions of dollars validating transactions all because we don’t have the tools to stop them?” Adeyemo said yes.
She also asked if there is a correlation between the growth of the crypto market and the amount of money Iran is pocketing. Adeyemo said yes.
Warren said there needs to be a regulatory framework in place for stablecoins that will subject users to AML laws.
