HOW JESS PHILLIPS WAS CAUGHT IN A LIE Most of you will have never seen this clip from Monday night. There is at least one reason why. The government's pattern of deception was laid bare in a remarkable exchange about Oldham that speaks volumes about their approach to this entire scandal. When challenged about how the government would compel reluctant councils to participate in inquiries, Phillips claimed that "Oldham Council had written, I believe, twice before to the previous government." It was an attempt at deflection. This triggered an immediate point of order from the opposition benches: The truth was that @OldhamCouncil had never written to the last government. The opposition groups, having failed SIX times to force the PAKISTANI gangster endorsed @UKLabour council to do so, desperately wrote to the government themselves - such was the scale of the concern over the cover up. The truth is that @JimfromOldham's Labour Party run Council had repeatedly blocked calls to write to the government. Phillips’ false claim whitewashed years of obstruction from a Labour council backed by known Pakistani gangsters. This is the same @OldhamCouncil, that under three successive Council leaders, actively voted against writing to the government. One such leader was Amanda Chadderton. She infamously downplayed the trauma of gang rape and once removed from power was rewarded with a paid position in @YvetteCooperMP’s team. Are we to believe that Jess Phillips did not really know what actually happened when the former Oldham Council leader held a prominent role for her boss in the Home Office? This wasn't a minor slip. It was a deliberate attempt to rewrite history and deflect responsibility. The Speaker himself had to intervene, noting: "I'm sure if there's been a mistake, the minister will correct that." Phillips' response? A half-hearted: "I will check, uh, the, the record." No admission of error. No correction. Just more evasion. This brief exchange reveals everything you need to know about how this government operates – distort, deflect, and when caught, refuse to acknowledge the truth. Jess Phillips built her reputation on championing women’s rights. But when it came to the victims of industrial-scale child rape, she chose to protect the lie.
