🔹If a solicitor's failure to attend court can prompt judicial consideration of a professional misconduct referral,
then what should follow where a litigant produces documentary evidence suggesting
🔹that legal representatives failed to place material facts before the court,
🔹disregarded instructions or
🔹acted amid undisclosed conflicts?
The answer cannot depend on whether the alleged misconduct inconveniences the administration of justice or whether it disadvantages an individual litigant.
🔹Professional obligations exist to protect clients, the courts and the administration of justice alike.
🔹The integrity of the justice system is not measured solely by how firmly judges respond when solicitors fail to appear.
🔹It is also measured by how effectively the system responds when litigants allege, with supporting evidence, that the professionals entrusted with protecting their rights have failed them.

What we do, @NoelMcgree, is not disgusting. We do our State and its citizens a service by speaking out about wrongdoing, failures and matters of public concern.
What is truly disgraceful is the treatment so many whistleblowers receive for having the courage to speak up.
Instead of being protected and thanked, many find themselves subjected to complaints, disciplinary proceedings and retaliation.
The problem is not the whistleblowers. The problem is how they are treated.

Interesting report by @kenfoxe revealing that the HSE overpaid staff by more than €30 million between 2023 and 2025.
But what about staff who have been underpaid or denied payments to which they were entitled?
I have raised serious concerns over the years about healthcare workers who left or retired without receiving holiday premium payments, and more recently about the non-implementation of the HSE Injury at Work Allowance scheme in a Section 38 voluntary organisation.
The figures in this article relate only to directly employed HSE staff.
Is it time for a comprehensive independent audit of payroll practices, underpayments and outstanding staff entitlements across the HSE and Section 38 voluntary organisations?
Accountability must work both ways. Staff should repay genuine overpayments, but employers must be equally accountable for identifying and correcting underpayments.
Healthcare workers deserve nothing less.

Maybe @HMcEntee doesn’t know the difference between sending a confidential whistleblower’s disclosure to the Commissioner and his solicitor sending a letter. Or she does. Either way this line the Coalition is now spinning is going to get it into deep, deep trouble

As PETI member and Renew Europe’s deputy coordinator, did you attend the 12 Oct 2026 coordinators’ meeting and support or cast a vote against scheduling Petition 1895/2026?
Revenue’s own findings document systematic VAT overcompensation in the broiler sector (averaging ~660%, up to ~1,000% for co-ops in sample periods)—contrary to the EU VAT Directive. This distorts CAP payments, single-market rules, and competition with Northern Ireland producers, harming compliant family farms.
Whistleblowers (a disproportionate share from Ireland) report threats, intimidation and commercial retaliation. Irish citizens deserve a fair hearing of the State’s own records.@AnybodyButBerti @MLorrM @williamhboney1 @celticjulie @Toibin1

John FitzGerald writes in today’s @IrishTimes that Ireland and the other former “PIIGS” dealt with their debt problems a decade ago.
🔹But there is another side to that history which Ireland still has not properly confronted.
🔹Substantial parts of the banking system’s liquidity problem were hidden — and we now know that part of the cost of repairing it was quietly transferred onto SMEs and mortgage holders?
🔹In April, this issue reached Westminster.
🔹A Westminster Hall debate examined the hidden-credit-line scandal: that banks attached undisclosed derivative credit liabilities to SME lending, weakening borrowers’ credit positions and, when rates collapsed, helping push viable businesses into covenant breach, restructuring and insolvency.
🔹That is not a minor footnote to the financial crisis. It raises a fundamental question about how bank balance sheets were repaired.
🔹Then look at Irish mortgage holders.
🔹The Tracker Mortgage Examination ultimately identified tens of thousands of affected customers and hundreds of millions of euro in redress and compensation.
🔹Subsequent enforcement findings established prolonged overcharging, contractual and regulatory breaches and, in some cases, the loss of family homes and other properties.
🔹So perhaps we need to reconsider what we mean when we say Ireland “dealt with” its debt.
🔹We know about the visible bailout: taxpayers recapitalised banks and sovereign debt exploded.
🔹But there was another, much less visible transfer.
🔹SMEs stripped of businesses and assets.
🔹Mortgage holders overcharged and pushed into arrears.
🔹Property lost.
🔹Credit withdrawn.
🔹Borrowers deleveraged.
🔹Banks repaired.
🔹If hidden liquidity shortfalls were being plugged partly through value extracted from customers, economically that resembles a covert bail-in of the real economy, without ever being called one.
🔹The critical question is therefore not simply how quickly Ireland reduced its sovereign debt.
It is:
🔹Where did the money used to repair the banks actually come from?
🔹Debt can be repaid.
🔹Losses can be recognised.
🔹But losses can also be transferred.
🔹Until Ireland traces the hidden liquidity shortfalls through the banks, the SME derivative/credit-line exposures, mortgage overcharging, enforcement and asset disposals, I do not believe we have established the complete economic cost of the banking crisis — or who ultimately paid it.
🔹Senan Allen accepted the seriousness of my Protected Disclosures in August 2015 - until in early September, he did an about turn. At whose behest? and why?

This cannot simply be brushed aside as an administrative error.
Today’s Irish Mail on Sunday reports that the identity of a Garda whistleblower was exposed despite assurances that his details would be kept confidential.
The article reports an acknowledgement that “a serious, black and white error was made.”
If a whistleblower makes a protected disclosure about serious wrongdoing, their identity must be protected and their evidence must be handled independently and securely.
There are now serious questions for the Department of Justice about who received the whistleblower’s information, who authorised its onward transmission, what safeguards were in place, and whether the whistleblower was exposed to the very people or organisation connected to his allegations.
An apology is not enough. There must be accountability.
