By 53% to 40%, Americans now again believe it's the Democrats, rather than the Republicans, who are "the party of the working class" nytimes.com/2026/10/21/us/po…

Ultimate KSČM tier politics: MEP Konečná has joined the far right Patriots for Europe group
Czechia: Kateřina Konečná, the sole Member of the European Parliament for the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM), has joined the right-wing Patriots for Europe group led by Jordan Bardella. KSČM itself is an observer member of the transnational Party of the European Left.

Facing the spectre of the ultraright entering government, "Operation ‘Save Soldier Montero’ has once again blown up the viability (and credibility) of the project". "To describe it as a circus falls short," she writes, expressing "shame, disappointment, impotence and .. rage".

Why Podemos prioritized Montero over leftwing unity: In "a surprise announcement this Monday," Podemos has erased any trace of its name at pazcasaytrabajo.es. "The campaign team puts all its trust in the image of its lead candidate Irene Montero". elpais.com/espana/2026-10-19…

A feature of left-wing governance? In the city of Badajoz, at least, average incomes in poor neighbourhoods rose considerably in 2019-2024, while rich neighbourhoods stagnated. elpais.com/economia/2026-10-…

My immediate neighbourhood belongs to the 12-17% poorest of Spain, but is more of a normie place by the standards of this region (36-50% poorest of Extremadura). Bit of a step up: our previous apartment was in the 7-12% poorest of Spain and 20%-36% poorest of Extremadura.

In the ten richest census districts of Spain, average incomes mostly went up by 20-25%, barely outdoing inflation (18.8%). In the ten poorest districts, they mostly rose by 30-40%. In district 6 of Badajoz (Sta Engracia, El Gurugú, Los Colorines), they rose by a massive 48%.

How horrible. Solidarity with @VlStarodubtsev, I hope you'll recover quickly and that somebody catches the bastards
PLEASE SHARE WIDELY. Today in Lviv military veteran Vladyslav Starodubstev (who now works in veterans' rehabilitation) was assaulted by a gang of far-right thugs. He was about to give a talk about the history of the Lviv left 🧵 More from Sotsialniy Rukh: facebook.com/share/r/19pEJNz…

A casual observer might assume Philippe (HOR-RE) and Attal (RE-RE) represent some sort of centrist camp, and if only one of the two runs you can add up their numbers. It's striking how much that's not true, and the other's voters would instead scatter across various candidacies.

If Attal (7%) doesn't run, Philippe's result improves by +3%, Glucksmann +2, Retailleau +1. (Also: Melenchon +1, Roussel -1) If Philippe (12%) doesn't run, Attal result improves by +4%, Glucksmann +3, Retailleau +2, Le Pen +2. (Also: Melenchon +1, Roussel -1)

After his last intervention in the grand project of leftist unity blindsided everyone but Podemos and doomed it for good, Rufián apologised. Not for his intervention, mind. Just for the project failing. Curiously though, the outcome served Rufián's personal interests just fine.

The pact with Rufián pulled Podemos in the wrong direction: it gave them an incentive to rebuff any last-minute deal with the Frente Amplio. But maybe that was all a mirage anyway. The FA ended up offering them better positions than Rufián ever did. It made no difference at all.

In texts, I'm (even) less nuanced. It's honestly how I see it though. Pity my gf for getting the walls of text though
