I've been experimenting with this on the side, ended up with an inbox pattern that allows subagents to be regular agents, with full interactivity. The primitives I landed on:
* spawn_agent(message) -> agent_id
* join_agents(agent_ids)
* message_agent(agent_id, message)
* interrupt(agent_id)
agent.message() puts a message in the agent's inbox. The inbox is emptied as soon as possible. In the spawn_agent message I put "reply to when you're done".
I added some deadlock detection logic but in practice agents have been smart enough to handle the concurrency pretty well.
