🇨🇦Canada, we can continue having encampments and people sleeping on our streets, or we can do THIS.
In Minneapolis, an old warehouse was transformed into Avivo Village, providing 100 private tiny homes with 24/7 support, mental health care, addiction treatment and housing assistance.
By July 2026, 873 people had been served, and 339 had moved into permanent housing.
This is what happens when we invest in housing and support instead of punishing people for being homeless.
We don't lack solutions, we lack the willingness to implement them.

Claude Monet is said to have called him "the master of light" and in 1909 he was one of the most celebrated painters in the world.
Today, outside his own country, most people have never heard his name...
He was Joaquín Sorolla, and that year he arrived in New York for his first American exhibition. The city fell for him completely: of the 356 paintings on show, 195 sold. He stayed five months and painted the President of the United States.
Then he went home to the sea he grew up beside, and that summer, on the beach at Valencia, he painted this. He first called it The White Horse. A boy leads the animal out of the water, both still streaming wet, the sun running along the boy's bare shoulder and the horse's flank, then breaking across the shallows until the sand shines like glass.
The canvas is over two meters wide, and up close the brushstrokes look fast, loose, almost careless. Step back, and they turn into some of the most convincing sunlight ever put into paint.
Eleven years later, working in his garden, he had a stroke and never painted again. He died in 1923. By then the art world had moved on to Modernism, and beauty like this had started to look old-fashioned. Within a generation, the master of light had slipped into the shadows...

Exceptionally heavy El Niño rains have triggered millions of dormant seeds beneath the soil, transforming vast stretches of one of the world’s driest regions into a spectacular carpet of flowers. 🌸🌸🌸
The Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, has been dramatically transformed following heavy rainfall in northern Chile. Areas that are typically barren and parched are now covered in vibrant violet and white blossoms, a rare natural phenomenon known as the “flowering desert.”🏵️🏵️🏵️

You have to zoom in on her face because these may be the most beautiful eyes ever put on canvas, and once you understand what she is looking at, they become almost unbearable...
The painting is Joan of Arc, made by the French artist Jules Bastien-Lepage in 1879, and it hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is enormous, more than eight feet tall, and it shows Joan not as a warrior in armor, but as what she actually was before any of it: a peasant girl of thirteen, standing in her parents' garden in the French countryside.
The Met describes her eyes as wide open and clear blue, her cheeks feverishly flushed, her gaze turned upward and away, and they are right, this is the face of someone who is no longer fully in the garden...
She has just heard the voices and behind her, among the trees, Saints Michael, Margaret, and Catherine have appeared, and they are telling this teenage girl the impossible thing she was born to do: leave home, take up a sword, and drive an army of invaders out of France.
Her eyes are fixed on something the rest of us cannot see, but her bare feet are digging into the earth, and one hand grips a branch beside her. She is being called toward something vast and terrifying, and every muscle in her is trying to stay rooted to the ground she knows.
The artist caught the precise moment a girl is torn between the life she has and the fate she cannot refuse.
And everyone knows how the story ends: she would follow those voices, she would lead armies, crown a king, and be captured, and at nineteen she would be burned alive as a heretic, still insisting the voices were real. Everything that was coming for her is already there, waiting, behind those wide blue eyes in this peaceful garden...

Found almost exclusively on Rottnest Island in Western Australia, the Quokka is celebrated as the "happiest animal on Earth."
They do not fear humans. When visitors kneel on the sandy trails, quokkas hop right up to say hello, offering a leaf with an unmistakable, beaming smile.
Why are they like this?
While facial anatomy creates the natural grin, the true reason is evolutionary: they have lived without natural predators on their island for thousands of years.
Never hunted. Never betrayed.
Having zero concept of cruelty, they meet strangers with pure, unconditional trust.
A smile born from a world without fear. It is impossible to look at this little face and not remember how good life can be.
