There are some incredible reporting details in this piece from Marchand. Not easy reporting to do at all.
Aikman and Buck are the best broadcasting booth in the NFL. I have believed this for a couple of years. It is, of course, just my opinion. I like both people individually quite a bit.
What's not opinion is that this siuation is an absolute mess and ESPN has a Super Bowl coming up— one of the biggest initiatives in company history.
They are in absolutely uncharted waters here.
After a quarter-century together, the iconic broadcast partnership of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman is fracturing.

Christian Watson has popped back out of the ambulance after a trip to the hospital and is going to return tonight.
The closest thing to a WWE script I’ve ever seen in the NFL.
#Packers WR Christian Watson has been cleared after undergoing tests at the hospital and is now on his way back to the stadium, per @KayleeHartung.
He remains questionable and could potentially return to the game.
"I just never thought you’d do it to me."

How does this continue to happen?
The Big 12 released a statement following its review of the ending of Notre Dame-BYU that one second should have been put back on the clock after the game's final play, which resulted in a 28-24 BYU win, while the Irish had possession.
"It was determined that time remained on the clock when the ball hit the ground and the play was incorrectly cleared by the replay officiating crew. The Conference will conduct a complete review of its end-of-game officiating process in advance of next week's games."

“It is embarrassing for all officiating quite frankly.”

Troy Aikman is eyeing his next landing spot, emphasizing that he’ll be “a free agent” after ESPN’s Super Bowl broadcast.
Aikman didn’t deny an FOS report of tension between him and Joe Buck amid his uncertain future, saying that it’s not hard to figure out what happened.
.@espn screwed up Inside The NBA and now this. Just terrible.
The Jefferson City insiders who helped build Bailey’s political career are clearly glad to have him back. Bailey would probably prefer you didn’t notice. missouriindependent.com/2026…
