A few thoughts after staring at this chart… i believe the biggest risk in investing in a new era is getting very good at underwriting the last one. And when I look at this chart from a16z it’s a useful picture of where AI infrastructure spending goes. It also raises a question for me…how much of our investment thinking is shaped by what we already know how to value? And as a consequence of that placing everything in previous world frameworks. Chips, power, networking, data centers are all obviously very essential. All relatively familiar and easy to underwrite…capacity, contracts, utilization, margins. I think so what if you really dig into it is that similar to the early days of the Internet and even the current stage we’ve seen businesses that emerge when intelligence becomes dramatically cheaper and easier to access are harder to model. Their customers may behave differently. Their business models may not have obvious comparables. we’re seeing these pressures with token economics in AI. Funny enough Crypto has been modeling this for a decade at this point The reason I think this matters is because capital follows perceived risk-adjusted returns. What feels lower-risk is often what fits an existing framework. To go a little bit deeper- we’ve seen versions of this through the internet, SaaS, and mobile transitions. Each created new ways to distribute products, charge customers, and build habits. Investors who carried forward the wrong assumptions could recognize the importance of the technology and still miss where the value would accrue. The venture firms that were willing to think differently and underwrite in completely ridiculous ways won big. I think consumer AI is one of those places today. Think about why people wanted a BlackBerry…access to people, information, and decisions without returning to a desk. Phones expanded that access enormously, but we still spend a lot of time translating what we want into what software requires. Open an app. Search. Type. Do a thing… and the switch apps. Repeat. I do the same thing in Google Chrome tabs far more efficiently. I just have to carry a clunky laptop around. Well what happens when we can simply express an intention and trust something to carry it through? Devices like Meta’s announced Muse Charm make that question tangible. The opportunity extends well beyond any particular device- intelligence that fits naturally into daily life, through conversation, context, and less effort. And I think their glasses were old take things to another level- especially if they continue on their current trajectory. For Apple, the threat begins before someone gives up their iPhone. It begins when another company becomes the first place they turn with a question, a decision, or something they need done- and they get tired of looking at their device all the time. And I think with the dumb device sales it’s cleared that there is a screen fatigue. Adding a second screen in my opinion is not the solution. The thing is that easier access actually creates another problem. If every founder, executive, and management team consults similar systems, we may get more polished versions of the same … group think. If you’ve listened to a recent cuddly earnings call, it’s pretty sad to hear the politicians executive. Discernment obviously becomes way more valuable. knowing which perspective matters, what deserves skepticism, and when the apparent consensus is wrong. The most important will be who is brave enough to actually think this was an action on it. Partners have to earn TRUST through judgment—including the willingness to disagree. My bet is that we are underinvested in discovering these consumer behaviors and building around them, even as enormous capital flows toward supplying the underlying intelligence. This is a question i keep asking myself which assumptions from the last era are becoming less useful, and what opportunities become interesting when we let them go?
Where does money invested into the AI buildout actually go? For every $100 flowing into the supply chain: - $50 to chips - $20 to power - $15 to networking - $15 to cooling, buildings, and land More charts in State of Markets II: a16z.news/p/state-of-markets…

Turns out repackaged openclaw/hermes with easier consumer experience still has the same flaws as your March 2026 clawbot.
Deleted Muse after seeing this post on Threads about how it told some Facebook Marketplace sellers the guy’s address and they showed up at his door Dangerous and creepy This would have been 1000x worse if the person was a woman

When we GTM we go deep at @mf__xyz. Some interesting metrics, YTD: - 800+ start ups created in Tokyo alone (+40% YoY) - 400 of which supported by the Tokyo government - 2 global unicorns If you’re building here, hit us up.

Yeah this is unacceptable @AnthropicAI @claudeai
I will be joining @Legendaryy and @JonahBlake in cancelling my Claude Max 20x today. It's becoming very unstable, and for non-development work, it's becoming a very poor partner for discussing almost anything via chat. Having a far better experience with other models rn.

Niulai 牛来 about to have the highest ROI of the movie industry. Anyone could've made a better animated movie using seed dance, but reality is that production quality is now a commodity thanks to ai. Taste > tech. And btw all stocks that had "niu" soared 3-10% today lol
A newly released animated film called “Niu Lai” (牛来) is going viral for all the wrong reasons in China. People are calling the visuals “disaster-level” , the entire production team was basically just two people: the director and the screenwriter. After 9 days in theaters, the box office still hasn’t even crossed 10,000 RMB. However, over the last day or two, Niu Lai's reputation has been turning around a bit. Many people feel that in the age of AI, having filmmakers who still stick to "handcrafted" animation and genuine effort is both honest and far more powerful than polished yet empty productions. Today, its box office sales grew by 500,000RMB! a massive single-day jump from previous days! Let's wait and see how the box office plays out!

I agree. I don’t believe ai being able to self code will lead to AGI. I had similar conversation with the core engineers that worked on Chinese LLMs and that seems to be the only argument they are using. In reality everyone knows this is not a guarantee, it just means it’s a non-zero chance. As a matter of fact we’ve seen a lot more World Model pitches and products betting on major LLMs not hitting AGI in the next 3 years over the past month. For me, this means there has been a lot more doubt.
For the past 3 years my elite friends that are either working in AI or living in San Francisco have been telling me adamantly we are 1-2 years from AGI/ASI singularity and absolutely everything is about to change. Meanwhile my intuition has been that no we’re not close to anything like humans not needed for intelligence. Like nowhere near I dont even see any whites on the eyes of this digital high IQ terminator, this dude is far on the horizon with the little mountains over there. Stark division of opinions throughout. My intuition Ive learned to train and listen to it, its my most powerful weapon. But I am a humble weaponholder, I recognize the achievements and abilities of these friends, in some cases of the most elite of them, far outweighs what I have achieved. If my opinion clashes so much with people of this caliber I also sit my ass down and listen. Its been enough time now that we’ve gone through their initial timelines. And somehow it feels like we have both been right? Clearly something revolutionary is going on, the digital/software world is being terraformed in front of our eyes and taking huge swaths of the economy with it. But I have been, so far, clearly correct. These things are still closer to a tool rather than replacing the tool holder. I still dont see it on the horizon. I dont know if its what Ilya S says that the data is gonna be the constraint. That feels right to me. There are only so many non linear intelligence vectors to train upon. There are still humans finding new ideas and innovating above and beyond what is available to train on online. I like to believe I am one of them and I dont feel like I am anywhere near saturation or that it will happen anytime in my lifetime. Yan LC has his belief that LLMs are capped which was well articulated, now though combined with world models I don’t know if thats the constraint. Data might be the boundary that will saturate first and the innovation needed for the next stage might be creating useful artificial data, much like for a long time financial model training has involved creating fake training data that has the attributes needed to program alpha. Ultimately this is all a pursuit for more alpha. Its a bit unnerving that even though I have been correct that the timelines on us being replaceable meat boxes arent correct, its impossible for me disprove the notion that its at the next corner we are about to reach. I feel like we will just keep going one block down the street at a time with baited breath because clearly something is getting closer though holding your breath for how long its actually gonna take is gonna asfixiate us. So lets take a breath. Theres a lot of trauma under the surface from the rate of change accelerating. Every single one of us feels it. The fascia are being pulled and we are emotionally masking it under our skin. We know something is under way. But those of us with strong awareness and with the lights switched on aren’t going to stop being needed anytime soon- I don’t care how many Elons, Darios, and Leopolds say otherwise.

Other takeaways: - all of Shanghai was packed, hotels were fully booked out - in true crypto conference fashion (cf. KBW, Token Dubai), it poured and the part of the city flooded - people were pitching like it was T049 - 99999999 side events

- half of US firms use Chinese LLMs - Chinese LLM tokens are the most consumed in the world for 11 consecutive weeks - OpenAI models don’t even crack the top 10 in token consumption - most VCs in China looking for the next world model (little ai application)

Wrapping up WAIC in Shanghai. Apparently this is the 8th edition but this year it’s been blown out of proportion because Xi decided to stop by on the first day. Key takeaway below:
