“If Russia were to hit our factories, I would say that would be Article 5,” said EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius [@KubiliusA], speaking exclusively to TVP World.
His comment was in response to Russian claims that European factories could be considered legitimate targets, pointing to NATO’s collective defense clause.
NEW -
European Defence Commissioner Kubilius just told me that there should be a collective NATO-wide military response to Russia bombing European factories.
“if Russia were to hit factories in the European Union, that would be article 5”

As the UN General Assembly kicks off in New York this morning and world leaders gather to discuss many of the most pressing global challenges, I am watching outside my central Kyiv apartment window as Russian drones attack the Ukraine's capital and its dwindling air defenses struggle to intercept them. There have been numerous explosions in the past 10 minutes.

The threat facing Europe from Russia is measured in months not years.
That's according to European intelligence officials who say the campaign to test NATO’s resolve will intensify.

Icelanders have narrowly rejected a proposal to resume talks on joining the European Union. The “no” side prevailed despite arguments that EU membership could help lower inflation and costs of living.
Voters against the proposal stressed sovereignty and control over Iceland’s fishing waters and farming rules. The result is also a setback for Brussels, which had hoped Iceland could become a powerful example of the EU’s appeal.

It seems Icelanders have decided not to open membership talks with the European Union.
With one constituency left to declare it’s looking like - roughly - 52% for no and 48% for yes (final results tbc)
Iceland voted no even without knowing what deal it could get from Brussels
Iceland really is breathtakingly beautiful.

Should Iceland resume accession negotiations with the European Union?
Nearly 400,000 Icelanders are set to answer this question in a referendum pivotal for the country's future.
The referendum is not a vote on EU membership. A majority voting “Yes” would authorize the government to resume negotiations. Any eventual agreement, however, would be subject to a second referendum.

The Spanish government has formally requested up to €115 million in emergency financial aid from the European Union following the migrant surge in Ceuta, nearly double the amount previously shown to TVP World.
Speaking at a press briefing in Brussels, European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammert confirmed receipt of Madrid’s formal application on August 24.
"The request includes measures to strengthen border protection and related infrastructure, as well as to ensure sufficient reception capacity for migrants, including unaccompanied minors," Lammert stated. "This is a priority for us, and we are working on it as urgently as possible."
A senior EU official confirmed to TVP World that Madrid is seeking between €100 million and €115 million in emergency funds. The formal figure almost doubles the €62.1 million informal request previously revealed by TVP World.

An internal EU document seen by TVP World reveals Madrid declined support from agencies including Frontex and Europol while insisting it could handle the crisis itself.

Nigel Farage is expected to cruise to victory in the Clacton-on-Sea by-election, with 34 candidates making it the longest ballot paper in British electoral history.
Among the candidates is Count Binface, prompting many locals to voice frustration at what they see as a farcical election. But the vote carries bigger implications for Farage, with his national ambitions and desire to become Prime Minister.
With scrutiny over a £5 million donation and his links to convicted fraudster George Cottrell, questions remain over whether this by-election could be just the beginning of Farage’s political troubles.
