Tapper: You are the first Latina governor in the history of this state of Texas. And I wonder, what would you say to 3 or 4 year old Gina Hinojosa, if you could, about where you are today? Hinojosa: I would say always believe in yourself, even when others don't. You know what you can do. You know what you can accomplish. And I would say that to any little girl, any child out there.

Remembering @JDVance saying that if Watergate happened today it would be a 12 hour new story, a kind of tacit permission to ignore the corruption of this administration. And then the country revolts against this administration at Watergate levels. Neat.
The 1994 “revolution” saw Rs win the popular vote by 6.8 pts 2006 was D + 7.9 2010 was R + 6.8 2018 was D + 8.6 2026 Ds are tracking toward a 13-pt popular vote win Have to go back half a century—the post-Watergate wipeout of 1974, D + 16.8 pts—to find anything like this.

A thread 🧵If you wanted to watch seven hours of Fox News personalities losing their ever-loving minds on election night but don't want to waste seven hours of your life I've condensed it for you. Hour 1 - DENIAL - They had no idea what was coming 1/7

Another very fascinating stat: Dems are set to win somewhere between 257-261 House seats. That’s roughly 60% of seats on a generic ballot of D+14 (56%) Which means the Dems actually have a more efficient seat count, by a lot! The gerrymandering is now technically in Dems’ favor?

New newsletter: THE TRUMP DECADE ENDS Ten years ago this week, Trump won for the first time. Last night, his party got crushed. Today, his own VP is publicly brainstorming ways to distance himself from the admin's core agenda. A new chapter in American politics is beginning, and the level of uncertainty is off the charts: - Nobody knows what the post-Trump Republican Party is, right now. (It's not entirely clear what the Democratic Party is, either!) - AI is booming. It's the single most powerful force in US macroeconomics and ... Americans absolutely hate it - Last night was a good night for both cultural moderation *and* economic populism. Talarico is a great e.g.: walking back his woke commentary while practicing a unity politics that's for everyone except "the top" - Fears that "billionaires are buying elections" were both powerfully felt and also proved quite wrong, as Elon torched half a billion dollars for nothing - Do not mistake the Democrats' huge night for a demographic realignment. Young people and Hispanics -- who both moved 30+ points between 2024 and 2026 -- are not setting up home in either party, they more like renters, signing a one-year lease for whoever makes the best incumbent critique derekthompson.org/p/the-trum…

Gina Hinojosa met with Beto O’Rourke before running. "Not one person can win Texas," he told her. "It has to be two." She and Talarico ran as a ticket, each appealing to different areas and demographics. Together, they changed what’s possible in Texas. theatlantic.com/politics/202…

Also funny that this was the same Senate map that Rs gained 9 seats on during Obama's second midterm.
If Dems win Alaska, it will be a net +8 Senate gain for them. Tying their +8 gains in 2008 and 1986. If they managed to win Mississippi too, +9 will be the best for Dems since their 15 seat gain in 1958

In @PunchbowlNews Midday: Lots of races still uncalled but House Ds are likely to hit 260 seats That could be 46+ seat pick up... In fact, we think the FLOOR for House Dems is 251 seats They are positioned to clear 260, depending on how NC + CO shake out punchbowl.news/archive/11426…

Last night wasn't just the end of the Trump era. It was the collapse of the coalition that built MAGA. White working-class voters, especially those in rural areas, didn't just stay home. Many of them voted for Democrats for the first time since Obama. Politics is different now
