As we start a year of hope for peace in Ukraine, take a moment to listen to the Dream Passes by the Windows, a love letter to its embattled people, sung by Dorset County Hospital choir

National Grid is trying to fell a 300-year old oak it promised to save. (The farmer even checked this morning that they would keep their promise and they said yes). This afternoon he finds out they were lying and WERE going to fell it. He has stopped them - for good?

Oh come on @mhclg this new legislation from 31st October is REMOVING power from communities and it’s elected councillors ..this is merely to speed up the approval process for unsustainable development by unelected officers..democracy is being overruled and you know it.

Replying to @AngelaRayner
@AngelaRayner and this out of touch government will not listen!
The new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) rules make it even harder for communities to object to unsustainable development…..every common sense reason for refusal no longer apply in the same way…what’s worse the new rules apply immediately even to applications already under consideration, meaning communities hard work campaigns are now pointless.

We can’t keep ignoring this @andyburnham @mhclg …1.4m unbuilt planning permissions since 2007…there has to be a sunset clause for developers.

When the Guardian went on strike to protest the Observer sale, I became a de facto spokesperson. Later a Tortoise employee I’d never met wrote to me to cancel my 20-year contract. No goodbye & no pay-off. This is how they now take credit for my work..but write me out of the story
Well done Rebecca’s neighbour. What a beautiful picture

🌳 Scrap Natural England so it's easier to trash our environment.
🧊 Lower standards so homes are colder and bills are more expensive.
🗳️ Leave the Aarhus Convention to restrict local democracy.
A plan to make developers richer & lives worse.
The new nature levy for developers - will it work for the environment? Hmmm
Don’t forget to respond to the EDP consultation

Yes we certainly do
Well, this is depressing. @KemiBadenoch I think you may have misunderstood that voters want greater protections for nature and the environment?

"Southern Water fined £2.4m over multiple incidents of sewage pollution in Kent."
That of course is on top of the £7.1 million they were fined back in July, the £90 million they were fined back in 2021, or the 107 environmental offences they've been found guilty of in the last 15 years.
Really, what is the point?

The housing crisis began when the state stepped back.
Profiteers took over, and homes became assets instead of places to live.
Housing is a necessity, not a commodity. It can't be left to markets.
We need a plan to build affordable homes that meet people's needs.
Lovely shots
