Each is a summary of a lecture (and workshop, and tutorial) that is meant to build to a deep and meaningful understanding of the toolset of the game designer.

Updated my @UnrealEngine "Mass Transference Gun" prototype w/ a couple more puzzles, better controls and a bit of UX.
Pushing the puzzle design as far as I can before I add any other mechanics!

Was working on an item respawner for my @UnrealEngine #gamedev #levelDesign puzzle game template.
I needed a "preview" of the object it spawns, and felt like it needed some kind of connection to the object it would despawn, so tried something...

It's timely to highlight the life & work of computer scientist Lynn Conway.
In the late 1960s, she transitioned from male to female and was sacked by IBM as a result. For some years, she went underground and, for the rest of her career, worked as a woman - herstory unknown.

Planning on contextualising my design class around politics this week.
Game design is about understanding motivation and "least resistance -> most reward".
If you're dumbfounded by whats happening, understand that its about what people perceive locally as rewards and resistance

Its probably preaching to the choir ... but please, if you're #teaching #gameDesign or #gamedev, I'm begging you ... stop getting designers to write GDDs for games that don't exist.
So much of my time is spent explaining to designers that writing docs isn't their only job.
Not that AI slop isn't bad, but are people forgetting that the Internet existed before Google and but crawlers?
The Internet isn't dead, we just need to find new and better ways of curating it.
