Union Cabinet has approved the launch of the ‘#NationalCriticalMineralMission (NCMM)’ with an expenditure of ₹16,300 crores and an expected investment of ₹18,000 crores (totalling ~$4 billion). NCMM is meant to create an end-to-end ecosystem and secure a long-term sustainable supply chain of critical minerals needed for #semiconductor manufacturing in India.
Key Objectives of #NCMM:
– Intensify the exploration of critical minerals and #RareEarth elements within India and overseas and offer financial incentives for it.
– Create a fast-track regulatory approval process for critical minerals #MiningProjects.
– Set up #MineralProcessing parks and support the recycling of critical minerals.
– Develop a stockpile of #CriticalMinerals.
– Encourage Indian #PSUs and private companies to acquire critical mineral assets abroad and enhance trade with resource-rich nations.
– Promote research in critical mineral technologies and create a #CentreOfExcellence on Critical Minerals.
India puts its foot forward in #AI, as China hit the US and shocked the world with the release of ‘#Deepseek’, its AI large language model (LLM).
Massive announcement about the removal of basic customs duty on critical minerals in India! Cobalt powder and lithium on the list among others.
Now let’s address state-center dual taxation and the sector is ready for 🚀🚀

My latest for the diplomat ahead of #Quad foreign ministers meet on July 29. I argue that it’s a pivotal moment to reduce supply chain dependence on China and that Quad countries must identify common v “unique” minerals on their national lists and build different policy solutions
To “China-proof” their critical minerals supply chains, Quad nations must improve intra-Quad partnerships, while solidifying trade with other countries. buff.ly/4ffCAl7
