i feel like the new private equity playbook is gonna be to buy undervalued businesses, embed a claude fork into the company slack, cut 20% of the workforce, and then sell the company for 500% more than they bought it
a lot of us who have been around for a long time have been openly saying airdrops are dying
this wasn’t us saying “airdrop farmers suck,” it’s that the meta of getting paid to test or use products has been shifting steadily for years. now you need edge and to make money using the product itself (i.e. profiting on trades, getting yield on DeFi, etc)
many protocol teams are blunt about never planning to launch a token (either remain tokenless or ipo instead). lots of teams that fundraised can’t find pmf and don’t even make it to tge. the few left that have a shot at airdropping don’t think it works as a viable user acquisition tool, let alone retention
crypto is changing!
the chain consolidation will continue. the vast majority of L2s will die. so will many L1s
the main breakout app of this cycle has been fomo. their entire value prop is social trading abstracting away “chains” and enabling access to the assets available on chains
chain success at this point boils down to the ones that:
1. win institutional flows
2. have native assets that people want
3. successfully nurture unique apps people actually use
seems to me monad actually has a shot to win here unlike most. much more work to be done
prediction: with these new apps going live and new experimentation with asset types, monad’s onchain landscape will look completely different within the next two months
open was just the start. it’s about to get real silly up in here
in open’s morning session, it was easy to see how much institutional adoption of monad has been ramping up
this will only continue and is v encouraging. this leads to an incredible amount of capital being brought onchain and the blockchain being leveraged across regions by major players and liquidity providers
but i personally believe that the reason monad is not a consensus darling on CT (yet) is because that’s not what people care about here
for better or for worse, they want the consumer apps. they want the casinos. they want the speculative fervor and trading opportunities
this is increasingly what i am thinking about these days. and from the builders i have been speaking to regularly, the future is v bright
for those that have seen the vision since early on, thank you. it takes a village to evangelize monad everywhere around the world
for those that still doubt it, a reckoning is coming
Tune in to the Open livestream xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1oKMvNzoL…
i’m getting increasingly blunt when delivering feedback both internally at monad foundation but also to app teams when they ask for it
if i do this it’s because i care about your success. and ultimately, i’d rather folks know where potential gaps may be and choose to ignore them than never be warned ahead of time because people were being “supportive and nice”
after years of running and advising GTMs, i can confidently say the biggest lesson i have learned is that "perfect is the enemy of great."
it is impossible to resonate with every single prospective audience member. it is impossible to please every single internal stakeholder
and if you optimize for the above, you have marketing that falls flat and fails to move the needle. there is no way around it
you can tell when something is corpo slop/when there were clearly 6+ stakeholders involved in the process. when too many people provided input on a launch video and there's no clear message or a message that isn't compelling
marketing is supposed to be controversial. it's supposed to be thought provoking. somewhere along the line i think many of us have forgotten that and it's become increasingly cookie cutter and playbook oriented. it's become a function that follows orders instead of setting trends or resonating with tastemakers
i encourage everyone to experiment more boldly and not to be so afraid of worst case scenarios. attention is fickle and you need to win it early and keep winning it
if we depend on product folks to keep shipping for retention, it's on us to solve the cold start problem and bring in eyeballs
If you blindly look at CT, you will miss a lot of alpha about Monad. Being early is an edge, but are you looking at the right places? Are you reading?
In September:
- The Metropolis global hackathon was announced to source the next generation of startups on Monad. There are 4 separate tracks with over $250K in prizes for builders. Submissions end on October 13th. monad.xyz/developers/hackath…
- Protocol engineers continue to push forward on post-quantum readiness. monad.xyz/blog/post-quantum-…
- $1B+ TVL and $33B+ DEX volume
monad.xyz/blog/monad-ecosyst…
just remember that when people said nothing was happening on monad, the eco collectively kept shipping
nothing has changed now with a little euphoria. pace is still relentless
quantum resistance, privacy, new trading apps, new asset availability
faster. harder. everything
the monad network has quietly been stacking wins across payments, tech upgrades, institutional adoption, etc for the past year
but when i tell you i am most excited about this next wave of apps about to deploy, i mean it
new assets, better UI/UXs, and just a fundamentally better trading experience are incoming
