Why painting (still) matters โฆ buff.ly/3ZTPxvx
"Is art still art when it is made by a digital construct? What do we lose when human emotions & creativity are replaced by digital facsimiles? Who owns [AI art]? If an artist is the one employing AI, does end product have more artistic credibility?"

"We believe that the unconventional nature of abstract art encourages the brain to enter a different state, relaxing its default perceptual predictions to accommodate the unusual sensory input."
(I love the use of an Oscar Bluemner painting; one of my favorite artists.)
Have you ever wondered why creative individuals seem to spot things that others miss? Research suggests this isnโt just a coincidence. Read the Idea from our sister magazine @psyche_the_mag psyche.co/ideas/a-key-part-oโฆ

Dan Dennett was a great philosopher, a kind and gentle man, and a dear friend to me and many others. We shall all be poorer without his wisdom, and I shall miss him immeasurably.
"Consciousness Explained" by Daniel Dennett (1942-2024) was one of my favorite books, literally life-changing & I remember discovering it at B&N in SF then staying up late in my hotel reading it. Prior to that I had no real interest in philosophy, thinking it was unapproachable.
