We need to separate out effective altruism blaming from the actual facts. The actual facts according to everyone building this — EA affiliated or not (Elon, Demis, sam, Dario, satya)— is that AI models are very powerful, capable and unaligned, and we have a short window to fix it. The only people arguing the facts are investors and people who stand a lot to lose financially from a slowdown. This is insanely greedy and short sighted. Blaming EA doesn’t change the facts or gravity of the situation. You know what would tank the markets more than proceeding with caution? Tanking humanity.

The next wave of AI I don’t think we are talking about enough is the surveillance state we are about to enter disguised as helpful consumer personal AI devices. Due to lack of a clear moat and a need for much more data, the frontier models need to try and own the next massive consumer device for AI that will replace androids and iPhones. Those devices will constantly stream for you as a “benefit” to be extremely helpful contextually. They will see, hear and record everything via pendants, jewelry, robots and glasses. All of that data in turn will be much more robust and infinite than the limited amount of fresh data the AI can currently guzzle to self improve via the internet. So basically, if you buy a future AI consumer device, you will be exchanging everything you see and do for the promise of a helpful assistant, while also giving surveillance permission, a moat, a new line of revenue and lots of fresh proprietary data to frontier models that need them. Worth it? 🤷‍♀️
