The death of local newspapers is a disaster that will really play out in the decades come to come, especially with declining media literacy. The thing here is that a lot of jabrones lump everyone in "The Media" together. "The Media" can technically consist of multi-million dollar ESPN takesman, a crime reporter from the Grand Forks Herald and an NFL podcaster. But the person covering crime or local politics for say the Lexington Herald-Leader isn't some CNN anchor making millions or some high-profile political columnist. It's almost always a regular Joe or Jane who lives in the community they cover and makes just enough to pay the bills. Sure, some online and independent sites will fill in some gaps. But if you are a young person and you see this, why on earth would you enter the local news profession given the annual drumbeat of layoffs and AI eventually covering some of this stuff? Smart young people will rightfully flee to anything safer, which is everything else. A disaster.

This should be bigger news
Porvenir, Texas, is a massacre site and a sacred place for those whose ancestors—unarmed men and boys—were slaughtered here by the Texas Rangers. So of course the Trump administration is destroying it for a border wall. Great reporting by @peterjholley texasmonthly.com/news-politi…

Reminder that there’s a bill making its way through the California Legislature that’s based on @CalMatters reporting & sponsored by the First Amendment Coalition that would mandate local law enforcement agencies release 911 calls of significant incidents inside immigration detention centers

What struck me & I won’t soon forget. A new haunting phrase in the vein of I can’t breathe. “Me estan matando” Among his last words, as heard from a witness who spoke to Washington Post. They reported he said “They’re killing me” in Spanish and I confirmed that’s what he said

It seems like Fox doesn’t realize that there is also a huge demographic of first generation Latinos who speak both languages that have just chosen the better product.

This is silly. Like Lalas or not as an analyst but degrading his playing career and using the bar at Henry or Zlatan is nuts. As someone who has followed this team since Caliguri’s goal you cannot dismiss Lalas’ importance to US Soccer.
This is digging Alexi Lalas’s grave, burying him in it and then pissing on said grave. Holy shit.

Hispanic voters huh? Interesting
Hilton's advancement was powered by strong late-mail performances across many rural and suburban counties. Steyer's hopes were dashed by his weakest Los Angeles late-mail showing yet, coupled with Becerra siphoning too much of the Democratic vote in heavily Hispanic counties.
