In functional societies, people use their income to improve their quality of life. In dysfunctional societies, a significant portion of that income goes into compensating for the government's failures.

couldn’t agree more. as a lifelong pdois supporter, i don’t think anyone could justify the leadership’s last minute decision to enter the fray.
i have said this ad nauseam: i don’t think anyone born before independence should be leading that country. it’s time to pass the torch
Another term with the incumbent would be deadly!
Language matters and this tone should not be taken lightly!

There’s a reason so many societies prior to the structure of this one worked as large communes. Two parents are not enough to raise a child realistically speaking this is why a strong community (/extended family) that is invested and cares is highly recommended by me

Barrow right now seems to be so eager to “set an example” to anyone who tries to voice their frustrations by protesting on streets. You can feel it in his tone when addressing the Banjul protest.
I think we’re entering an era where poverty doesn’t always look like unemployment.
You can have a job.A university degree.A smartphone.Internet access.A respectable salary. And still be one unexpected expense away from financial trouble. You work, but can’t afford a home. You earn, but struggle to save. You have qualifications, but no financial security. At what point do we acknowledge that having employment and escaping poverty are no longer necessarily the same thing?

The minimum wage in France is €1,867.02, about 3million naira. Which means a basic warehouse job can sustain you. But the French are still protesting for better life.
In Nigeria, monthly minimum wage cannot feed you for three days, people are being murdered on daily basis. No basic healthcare, no standard education, fake drugs, fake drinks, fake products everywhere. Children are sitting on the bare floor in classes with no roofing. Yet we act like everything is fine. Our major concern since the 90s is still whether an Igbo Yoruba or Hausa becomes President.

It’s actually crazy how you grow up thinking home-cooked meals every day are just normal, then get older and realise how much time and effort it took your Mom to make that happen and how lucky you were to have that.

Three weeks after my mom died, I started waking up every morning at 5:52 in a full panic. I never even realized it was the same time every day. He did. So he set an alarm for 5:51. He wanted the first sound I heard to be something ordinary. Just the soft click of him turning it off. Not the sudden terror of remembering she was gone.
After a while the panic stopped.
He never stopped setting the alarm.
Last night I watched him reach for his phone before we fell asleep.
5:52.
Still.

For eleven years my husband has woken up at 5:52 a.m. on the dot.
Not 5:50. Not 6:00. Exactly 5:52.
He never snoozed it. Just reached over, turned it off, and lay back down until the real morning started. I always thought it was some military leftover or weird personal rule. I never asked.
Last month he had to fly out for a conference. The first morning alone I jolted awake at 5:52, heart already racing, and couldn’t figure out why that exact time felt like a punch to the chest.
When he got home I teased him about it. “Your alarm has brainwashed me.”
He went quiet for a long time.
Then he told me.

The tribal bigotries, the fearmongering, all seem ineffective for the NPP this time around. That's why they are resorting to provocation, intimidation, and invitation to violence. Let's not honor their invitation, bcos we have a President to elect come 5th Dec.

every moral panic about women “abandoning the home” is also a panic about who will do the labor if women stop doing it for free.

The struggle comes when you consciously realize what gives you life/happiness is in another path different from the one you’re already on. And it dangerously differs with time
Killing certain versions of you is hard, very hard. But I guess that is where some shout “contentment”?
Every path is a package. And every package won’t have it all.
One of the ugliest truths about life is, every choice we make kills another version of ourselves. Get married, and you'll eventually miss the freedom you had alone. Stay single, and there will be nights when you wonder what it would've been like to build a life with someone. Have children, and you'll miss parts of the life you never had before them. Don't have children, and you may spend years wondering about the family you never created.
There is no perfect path and there is no decision that leaves you with everything.
The life you didn't choose will always look better from a distance because you never had to pay its price.
Stop searching for a choice you won't regret, it doesn't exist. choose your life, accept what it costs, and live with the consequences.
