Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Cloudflare has deployed default web application firewall (WAF) protections for newly disclosed PHP vulnerabilities before public disclosure. The rules use request and response signals to stop exploit attempts and prevent exposed data from reaching attackers. cfl.re/488w8dc

‼️ PHP UPDATE: A public exploit for the leaked PHP flaws is now online, complete with downloadable code, hours before the patch. Its author, who posts as J4ck3LSyN, says it was recreated and "lab/field tested", and labels one of the two bugs "weaponized (lab)". The PoC was recently updated, admitting the attack chain it first described does not work. A separate exploit credited to security firm Calif was shown running commands on a WordPress test site in a video that was briefly posted. PHP's fix is due at 14:00 UTC today.

Last year, it saw a net loss of $13 billion during the same period. The company continues to signal it's going to spend a lot more on compute. "Network effects" may be the most abused term in business. In a true network effect, marginal cost to add users *relative to a smaller competitor* goes down. Telcos are the classic example. The value of the network grows exponentially with the number of users. So a leader has an advantage over a challenger. Just because a company has a property that is self reinforcing (e.g. it gets data per customer) does *not* mean it has a network effect. The value of data tends to grow sublinearly over time, not exponentially. So a leader is strictly disadvantaged to a challanger. The same goes for many things people ascribe network effects to.

The viral clips of AI job interviews aren’t exactly inspiring, and the experience is unlikely to leave a candidate excited to join the team. But that’s a reason to rethink how we use AI in hiring, not write it off entirely.

The global debt crisis is set to get even worse: The US fiscal deficit is projected to widen to -6.1% of GDP in 2027, its largest since 2012, excluding the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. This will be the biggest deficit as a % of GDP among the 5 major developed economies, including the UK, Germany, France, and Japan. Furthermore, Germany's deficit is expected to widen from -2.7% of GDP in 2025 to -4.1% in 2027, its largest since 2010, excluding the 2020 pandemic. Japan's fiscal deficit is estimated to more than triple, from -0.7% to -2.5% of GDP, its largest since 2022. The UK is the only economy expected to improve its fiscal position, with its deficit narrowing from -4.3% in 2025, to -3.1% of GDP next year, while France's budget gap is projected to widen to -5.2%. Deficit spending is only accelerating.

A friend heads private credit at a large public pension fund and his exposure to data centre went from 0 to 5% of overall portfolio in less than 18 months…. He is running out of capacity to add more exposure to data centres and on top of that the limits are now getting tightened because every exposure is now below water. I always believe that fixed income spreads are like canary in coal mine for equities, fixed income guys are logical whereas equity guys are emotional. Last week 2 interesting things happened. 1. Paramount Skydance Corp. raised a massive $52 billion in debt (loans and bonds) to fund its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., which triggered immediate losses for bondholders and an uproar on Wall Street… as the bonds fell sharply inspite of over subscription. 2. Credit spreads on SpaceX's $25 billion bond offering have widened sharply following heavy secondary-market selling, with longer-dated spreads blowing past 230 basis points and touching near-junk territory. As per the article in startup fortune. Six months ago, banks were racing each other to underwrite data center loans tied to Oracle, Meta and the rest of the AI buildout. Now some of the same banks are trying to get that debt off their books. JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, SMBC and MUFG have been exploring significant risk transfers, according to a report from the Financial Times. These are deals that let a bank keep a loan on paper while shifting its riskiest slice to outside investors. The banks are doing this because they are bumping up against internal limits on how much AI-linked exposure any one lender can hold.
