3.5 years since deciding to start building software businesses
2 years since making first dollar online
4 months since crossing $10,000 MRR
I finally feel like my impostor syndrome guard is down and I am ready to share what I've learned along the way!
Today is finally the day. First paying customer. First 1$ made online. Still can't process.
1.5 years since I decided to follow indie hacker path. What a way to close 2022, coming in strong into with @danabeknar 🚀🚀🚀

Joseph Heller, an important and funny writer now dead, and I were at a party given by a billionaire on Shelter Island. I said, “Joe, how does it make you feel to know that our host only yesterday may have made more money than your novel ‘Catch-22’ has earned in its entire history?” And Joe said, “I’ve got something he can never have.” And I said, “What on earth could that be, Joe?” And Joe said, “The knowledge that I’ve got enough.”

Code was never the bottleneck taste has never been more important we’re operating at a different level of abstraction this model changes everything openclaw you’re falling behind sota I’ve never had so much fun as a developer

Enjoyed my discussion with PM Netanyahu on how AI education and literacy will keep our free societies ahead.
We spoke about AI empowering everyone to build software and the importance of ensuring it serves quality and progress.
Optimistic for peace, safety, and greatness for Israel and its neighbors.
apart from being a happy basecamp customer, I thought that I "get it" so much now that it is time to wear that logo on my chest
thank you for everything you do and even more for what you don't do! @jasonfried @dhh

hey @dannypostma – thanks for the SEO course! can you pls check [email protected] ? having troubles redeeming the code / accessing the course
if you are reading this chances are 9/10 that you are gracefully procrastinating and looking for another "piece of insight" that will magically help you reach that MRR goal
but reality is that you just need to fucking ship
live product and real customers will teach you the rest
if you are just starting out on this journey: ask yourself what you are trying to do – make money or look cool?
if the answer is look cool – do what cool kids are doing: post on twitter, use Next.js, build ✨AI ✨ product
but if you want to make money do this:
go find yourself a niche that is so unsexy and boring that cool kids wont ever build anything there
go build something that is hard to yap and brag on twitter about
twitter is a bubble, there are people for whom windows xp is still the latest innovation – go build something for them – and you will print cash
so you know what is cool? printing cash is cool
hitting pmf with product is like making ur partner reach orgasm – everyone talks about it, few really know how it feels like, but everyone claims they did it
if you are still at $0 MRR and just starting out consider building some hyperlocal SaaS for your country/city
this way you won't be competing with 99.9% of folks who are posting here
and instead you will be competing with folks whose UI looks like this:
(i bet you can beat em)
This makes me realize that I know too many teams where there is 0 level 4 or level 5 people. Yet they don't realize it. Especially the founders.
The question is how do you help people realize that?
so @aaarkalyk asked about distribution and given that he is almost my only active follower – i think i have to give the audience what they/him xDD are asking for:
as an engineer you're most likely to be comfortable about "delivering the product"
so you just need to start treating that marketing examples that you see not as "scam" but rather as an acquisition funnel that you need to get inspired by /3
that's a wrap for now! @aaarkalyk lmk if it is helpful at all hahaha you are my one-man audience for now xD
