Having covered Mladic's monstrous crimes in real time, I had dared to hope Serbia would not do this. I had hoped that today's young Serbs' dreams of joining Europe, being in the democracy and human rights club, might add an element of common sense, morality and restraint. But must we now conclude this IS who Serbia wants to be? A nation aligned with, and honouring, a convicted war criminal, a mass murderer, guilty of the most heinous crime under the sun: genocide. How could the system, including the church, allow this?

My first thought was... finally.
My second thought was that he died, probably peacefully in his bed, which was a luxury that he did not afford the tens of thousands of women, men and children who died because of him.

One of the world's most brutal murderers is finally dead.
At 84 years old the former Bosnian Serb general, Ratko Mladić lived way longer than he allowed his tens of thousands of victims.
The more than 7000 Muslim men and boys he had slaughtered in Srebrenica will be his enduring shame.
At least he was tried by an International Criminal Tribunal and found guilty of his enormous crimes of genocide.
I am proud of the work we journalists did in the 90s to document his crimes against humanity, to finally hold him accountable.

U moje ime i u ime obitelji hvala svima koji ste svojim prisustvom uveličali ovaj meč.
Hvala bh zvijezdama koji su uprkos velikim temperaturama stigli u Mramor.
Hvala divnim ljudima i osoblju NK Mramor ( Amel Bajric, Edis Delic, Alen Fejzić Malkić Edin) jer su sjetili mog Vede i organizovali ovaj meč u njegovu čast.
Moj Mramor je još jednom pokazao da to nije obično mjesto.
Da to nije običan nogometni klub.
Svetri ove naše posljednje teške godine cijelo vrijeme smo osjećali njihovu podršku.
Ljudi su čudo
Mramor je čudo.
