Kenya and the United Arab Emirates enjoy warm diplomatic ties grounded on our shared aspirations.
We will keep growing this friendship to facilitate more trade and investments between our two countries.
Met the Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates His Highness Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, State House, Nairobi.
#Uganda bans transits for people with a history of travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo, latest policy to cut out #Ebola imports/exports. Statement doesn't explain if this includes truck drivers delivering stuff to Congo, via Uganda.
I wonder why nationality of the patient is more important ping-pong than the obvious gaps in checking her in all those border crossings...?
The Ebola patient in Nigeria is Uganda-born. She went to Uganda and was there for some days. Her husband flew to join her in Uganda, and they both returned to Abuja, Nigeria, on October 3, 2026. We want collaboration from this lady. She has to disclose to the authorities if she flew into the DRC, went out of Kampala, and if she was in contact with someone from the DRC.

Interesting public squabble among agencies of the same government
PUBLIC STATEMENT
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has learnt with concern of the launch of a “National Data Strategy” by the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance (MoICT&NG).
The Bureau informs the public that the strategy breaches the provisions of the UBOS Act, 1998, Cap. 333, which establishes UBOS as the principal data collecting and disseminating agency responsible for coordinating, monitoring and supervising the National Statistical System.
The public is therefore strongly advised to treat the impugned “National Data Strategy” recently launched by the MoICT&NG with the utmost contempt it deserves.

EBOLA IN NIGERIA: AN URGENT CALL FOR GLOBAL SOLIDARITY
Today 20 October 2026, I spoke with the Nigerian Coordinating Minister of Health and Social welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, who informed me of a confirmed Ebola Bundibugyo case in Nigeria. I commend his transparency and leadership. Early reporting saves lives.
When Africa CDC declared this Ebola outbreak on 15 May 2026, we warned of its regional dimension and implications.
This Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak has already become the most geographically widespread Ebola outbreak in history, affecting multiple countries across three regions of Africa.
With mortality approaching 50% in DRC, we face an extremely serious threat. Africa CDC has already begun mobilising support for Nigeria, while intensifying our response in DRC and Kenya and maintaining heightened vigilance in Uganda.
My appeal to the international community is urgent: ACT NOW.
We need immediate, flexible financing, medical supplies, diagnostics, trained responders and stronger community-based surveillance. We cannot allow this outbreak to spread to more countries or continue for another year.
Every day of delay costs lives. Africa’s health security is global health security. Stopping Ebola in Africa today means protecting the world. Nigeria has our full solidarity. Together, we must defeat this outbreak.

Careful, because that could be counterproductive. You 'punish' the family and all other contacts disappear into the villages; you get more community infections, something everyone is trying to avoid. In natural survival instincts, all humans try to reach where they think they can be rescued or improve chances of recovery. Sneaking through the border from #DR_Congo to #Uganda and into #Kenya is pure survival instinct; you can't punish that. The weak link here is the border patrol and port health; those are where we should focus our eyes and ask why the screeming couldnt detect a sick person and isolate him early. Besides, @WHO 'outbreak communication guidelines' advise against targeting patient zeros, or infected persons or even identifying them for blame.

The top three candidates for UN Secretary General in straw poll have each received 2 discouraged votes from permanent members of the Security Council, raising prospect of new entries into the race. They include Rebeca Grynspan, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and Rafarel Grossi
Lana Zaki #Nusseibeh of the #UAE is being touted as a late entrant in the UN Secretary General's race...and could win. She is assistant FM for her country...
This is getting interesting. Seems the race run by current candidates may amount to naught:

🚨New UN SecGen race straw poll later today ‼️ with color coding indicating P5 support or discourage ~ Lots of names being floated as possible entries - the ones who do not have obvious vetoes from a P5 nation include: Min Lana Nusseibeh (UAE); CdC Amb Courtenay Rattray (Jamaica); SecGen OSCE Feridun Sinirlioğlu (Turkey);
Min Alicia Bárcena (Mexico). Still time for more….

An Indonesian citizen on the crew of an Ethiopian Airlines cargo flight from Addis Ababa to Ben Gurion got the aircraft denied entry into Israeli airspace and sent back.
The crew list only reached Israeli systems after the plane had already taken off early in the morning. The nationality was flagged and the order to turn around followed. Indonesia and Israel hold no diplomatic relations.

#ICC: Kenya, says reforming, not sanctioning, is better. A decade ago, #Kenya asked African members to quit the Court, vowed never to have another citizen tried there. Today? Nairobi says it is playing for multilateralism.
The ICC deserves serious criticism for failing to live up to the mandate and expectations for which it was established and for being selective in its focus. What it needs is urgent reform. Not sanctions. Kenya will continue to work with State Parties to reform the court. @ForeignOfficeKE
