Tokenized real-world assets have grown roughly sixfold since January 2025, to $38.6B (RWA.xyz, 29 Sep). Almost none of that value is reused as collateral; the credit multiplier sits close to one. Until that changes, tokenization serves distribution rather than financing.

Tokenized assets passed $346 billion this month. Most of that, around $298 billion, is stablecoins. The other $48 billion is made up of Treasuries, yield strategies, credit funds and commodities. In July, Forbes looked at the 1,289 tokenized assets worth more than $100,000 and found that 910 of them had not moved within 7 days. The assets are there, and for the most part they are sitting idle. Then on 31 August, ICE and tZERO agreed to explore accepting tokenized assets as collateral at ICE clearing houses. Once a clearing house is prepared to take these assets as collateral, someone has to price them, set the maintenance terms and enforce them. That is what turns a tokenized asset from something you hold into something you can finance with, and it is what will decide how much of the $48 billion ends up as working capital.
