Thrilled, humbled and honored to receive the @NYUStern Faculty Impact Award which recognizes faculty members whose recent work has had a meaningful impact on business, policy, and society. Even better to be able to share that special evening with my wonderful colleagues!
Some of the most interesting deals in AI/Tech right now don't look like mergers at all. Instead of buying AI startups outright, tech companies are taking minority stakes, forming joint ventures and hiring whole teams in big acqui-hires, often without triggering a Hart-Scott-Rodino filing. Examples of these M&A deals include Microsoft/Inflection, Amazon/Adept and NVIDIA/Groq. Excited to speak on this topic at the inaugural 2026 Economist Antitrust Summit next week. I'll be joined by a great lineup: Ethan Klingsberg, who co-heads US corporate and M&A at Freshfields; Rebecca Farrington, co-leader of White & Case's global antitrust practice; Michael Blaisdell, associate general counsel for competition at Cisco and Sarah Bartels, senior counsel for competition law at HPE.

Not a miracle. It was awe-inspiring heroism and courage displayed during the attempt to hijack and crash Flydubai flight FZ1073 traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel.
Hero: pilot and Indian national Smit Machchhar, who was attacked with a knife by his Omani co-pilot. While fighting his attacker, he was able to notify the crew and passengers (possibly by hitting the PA button). Lying in a pool of his own blood and still fighting, he was able to allow access to the cockpit while the plane was taking a violent nosedive, losing 17,000 to 18,000 feet in about two minutes. He fought like a lion and deserves so much respect and honor. @IndiaToday @ndtv @gauravcsawant @ShivAroor
Heroes: the ordinary Israeli citizens who did not hesitate a second and jumped to assist the crew in fighting their way into the cockpit and subduing the co-pilot. This level of heroism and courage cannot be dismissed. People often miss that Israel has a citizen defense force made up of doctors, artists, college students, grandparents, business owners who all serve to defend their homes and nation against attacks by other nations, terrorist armies, and decentralized terror campaigns.
Heroes: the flight crew who joined the passengers to get into the cockpit, subdue the attacker, and manage the passengers and chaos throughout the cabin.
Heroes: off-duty pilots on board who were able to get the plane under control and safely land it in Saudi Arabia.
It takes a village/tribe/community to keep each other safe, with people willing to fight evil when it comes to their doorstep. I have huge respect for all involved in this event.
NEW VIDEO: A passenger aboard the Flydubai flight describes the terrifying moments the plane suddenly plunged as an attack unfolded inside the cockpit.
He recounts the chaos as passengers realized something was seriously wrong and details the effort to reach the cockpit and regain control of the aircraft.
Officials say one pilot stabbed the other and the suspect appeared to try to crash the Tel Aviv-bound plane, which was carrying mostly Israeli passengers.
Another crew member ultimately stabilized the aircraft before it made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
Happy to share the good news that our NYU Stern MSBAi program was ranked the #1 in part time business analytics masters programs and #5 across all (full time and part time) masters programs, globally in the QS rankings.

Why do New Yorkers when they are about to converge on the same spot on the sidewalk or street, still keep walking? It’s like a sidewalk game of chicken as everyone expects the other person to slow down or step aside.
Wow! We used to worry reviewers weren’t reading the papers. Now the authors aren’t either.
TMLR has faced a deluge of submissions, necessitating stricter desk rejection policies due to limited reviewer capacity
Co-EiC Nihar Shah reached out to authors of 10 papers slated for desk reject. Could they answer questions about their *own* submission?

Cool work! Congratulations @danielrock. Seems like the findings of this paper, specially, the ones on productivity boost, will also be important in revisiting promotion and tenure expectations and guidelines for young academics.
Check out our new paper (and Arthur's excellent thread) on how scientists are using AI! More to come here as well.

Grateful to have had the opportunity to work on 2 of these 3 antitrust cases as a testifying expert for Meta and Google. Learnt a lot these last few years. And thankful to an incredible team at Compass Lexecon for their support work.
Fed gov now 0-3 in recent efforts to break up Big Tech:
1. Meta-Insta/WhatsApp (lost case)
2. Google-Chrome (won case, no breakup remedy imposed)
3. Google-Ads Manager (won case, no breakup remedy imposed)
Big picture: The threat of legal liability from civil suits is proving to be Big Tech's biggest headache, not federal antitrust suits

BREAKING: DOJ v Google ad tech remedies just in.
Divestiture proposal has been rejected, and most behavioral remedies (with modifications) accepted.
Yet another huge win for Google! In a landmark ruling today, Judge Brinkema ruled against the DOJ structural remedies proposal and decided that Google will not be required to break up its ad tech business. I am very pleased to see this outcome as we had worked for almost 5 years on this antitrust case on behalf of Google supported by my excellent team at Compass Lexecon.
A big win for the economic experts paid by Google who argued that total dominance in the ad technology business was nothing to worry about

Nepal has given our family so much — years of hiking and mountaineering, and unforgettable time in its mountains and villages. Watching the recent flash floods devastate communities in Rasuwa and beyond has been heartbreaking. We've made contributions to three different institutions (Nepal Red Cross, Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund and World Central Kitchen) to support relief efforts on the ground, and if you're able to do the same, please know that very bit helps families rebuild. 🙏

Rest in peace, Nimsdai. You will remain a legend forever. You taught an entire generation of climbers that limits are just illusions. The mountains may have taken you, but your legacy on these 8,000-meter giants will live forever. #GOAT 🙏

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.
