I would like to formally raise concerns regarding the quality of Riftbound’s Korean localization. @playriftbound @riftboundop @davetron @TrickJarrett There are issues in the Korean edition that go beyond awkward wording and directly affect gameplay. A clear example is Sett, Kingpin. The English card reads: “I get +1 Might for each buffed friendly unit at my battlefield.” However, the Korean printing translates this as the equivalent of: “I get +1 Might for each other buffed friendly unit at my battlefield.” The word “other” does not exist in the English text. This is not merely a stylistic difference. Under the English wording, a buffed Sett can count himself as a buffed friendly unit. Under the Korean wording, he cannot. The two versions can therefore produce different game outcomes. As far as I have been able to verify, Sett, Kingpin was not previously worded with “other” in English, nor is it listed among the official Origins card errata. There are also broader localization concerns, including terminology such as Hidden → “숨겨짐” and Controller → “통제자”, which often feels overly literal and unintuitive to Korean players. In a TCG, card text and rules terminology are not simply translated copy. They are part of the game system itself. Players reading different language versions should still arrive at the same rules interpretation and game state. What makes this particularly disappointing is that the Korean edition was not a simultaneous global release. Riot’s own announcement acknowledges that Korea is beginning with Origins while the global release schedule is already significantly ahead. Korea will therefore receive seven Riftbound sets during 2027 alone, with the goal of reaching global release parity by early 2028. Riot has also stated that introducing new language editions brings additional logistical and operational complexity. Given that additional preparation time, it is concerning to find a functional mistranslation on a physical card at launch, alongside terminology that still appears insufficiently refined for Korean players. I am glad to see significant investment in the Korean launch through large-scale events at GGX and Yongsan, influencer campaigns, and special products such as the T1 collection. However, for a trading card game, the foundation must ultimately be the game itself. The same level of attention being given to marketing, promotions, and collectible products should also be given to card text, rules terminology, localization, and gameplay QA. I hope the Korean edition receives official errata for functional mistranslations, as well as a broader review of its terminology and localization quality. I am raising this because I want Riftbound to become a game Korean players can trust and enjoy for years, rather than simply a successful launch campaign or collectible product.
