Ethiopia excels at scapegoating. When its people resist its colonialism, it deflects blame outwards. In the Somali–Ethiopian wars of 1964 & 1977, it redirected the war towards Somalia after a local revolt. In the current revolt, it blames Eritrea & claims waterways it doesn't own

Evidently #Türkiye’s engagement with #Somalia is an example of when fiction mirrors reality. Turkish TV drama Teşkilat Season 7 will have an episode where a Somali President is kidnapped and rescued by Turkish intelligence who force him to enter into deals on energy exploitation.

Turkish flags filled the stands in Baidoa as Somalis gathered to show their support for Türkiye and thank Ankara for its longstanding backing of the country. The rally comes as Türkiye and Somalia deepen their strategic partnership, with co-operation spanning defence, energy, fisheries, maritime security and space. In 2024, the two countries signed a 10-year defence and economic agreement, while Türkiye has also expanded oil and gas exploration and begun construction of a spaceport in Somalia. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently praised Türkiye’s support, saying his country must not disappoint “the Turkish people and the Turkish state” who have stood by Somalia
