Africa’s reliance on foreign aid is a major “blunder”, according to Rwanda President Paul Kagame.
In this 2015 clip, Kagame warns that aid can be used as leverage by donors when countries do not “play ball”. His argument is that African leaders should focus more on investment, stronger markets and economic independence.
Between 2000 and 2023, the continent received $1.3 trillion in aid, four times more than South Asia and 14 times more than South America.
