Excited to share research that we've been working on, exploring the effects of AI usage on patent applications! The working draft is available at lnkd.in/gS88ZaBw
🚨Paper alert!🚨 How has AI affected patent applications? It looks like micro entities (these are very small firms and individual inventors) are much more likely to use AI, per a paper with @Nikhil_Dilip and Youngkyung Kim.

Does employees' political participation reflect their own views or their employer's influence — and is this tension particularly acute in a nascent industry like AI? A pleasure to speak with Brandon Pho and Kelly Waldron at Mission Local about this. missionlocal.org/2026/08/ope…

pleased to announce an update of relianceonscience.org, which has been mothballed for a couple of years when the previous grant ran out. thanks to support from the Alfred P. @SloanFoundation we have updated the patent-to-paper citations through 2025. one change in this release is that the citations are limited to patents granted by the USPTO. this will be our scope going forward. this release also fixes a bug whereby the # of in-text citations for 2021 and 2022 were artificially low. lastly, the system has been ported from the old pile of Perl scripts to Python, so you can more easily download the code and replicate what we did. you will need a server with about 400G of memory to run it. happy researching!

On June 30, 2016, @emollick bet @robseamans that in ten years robots would take half of the jobs in the warehouse & storage industry. How'd the bet turn out?
Replying to @emollick
@emollick bets @robseamans that robots will take more than 428K warehouse jobs in the US by June 2026. xitter.cf/emollick/status/748565…

How do autoworkers choose their battles during the EV transition? My new paper @IR_Berkeley looks at the divergent paths of U.S. and Canadian unions. The key takeaway: Beyond power resources, we must look at internal politics to explain strategic choices. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

I will discuss this remarkable paper: China pulled off something economists long thought impossible. It went from pharma free rider to innovation leader. A single policy change (NRDL) massively expanded market size, cut prices, and increased frontier drug R&D.
Interested in learning more about innovation in pharmaceutical drug development? Come to our AEA session on Sunday, January 4 at 2:30pm.

"...not to try to squeeze more information out of the data by statistical means [but] find techniques for observing the phenomena at a higher level of resolution. The corresponding strategy for economics is obvious: to secure new kinds of data at the micro level." (Herbert Simon)

nice. I will certainly admit to not knowing about this.
The work of sociologist Edward Zilsel in 1940s is nicely related to the recent Nobel prize. Almost no one in econ world knows about this work, but thankfully Mokyr did, and found it useful
