It's so weird that amidst the 21st century tech boom, the Bay Area has actually *lost* pro sports teams since apparently none of these tech geniuses is normal enough to want to be a local hero and own a baseball team.

East PotomacĀ Park was established more than a century ago by Congress for the recreational leisure of the people: golfers, hikers, bikers, walkers, yoga classes and you name it. Hundreds of thousands of people in the DMV and visitors from elsewhere enjoy this beautiful landmark. Of course, Trump’s now trying to steal it for another imbecilic vanity project so billionaires and Trump’s royal court have another place to golf. They have already illegally demolished hundreds of trees where they want the new course to go. With Halloween approaching, maybe it’s time for a march of the Loraxes to stop this criminal desecration and destruction of federal property. washingtonpost.com/sports/20…

Sens. Blumenthal and Tillis just organized a bipartisan call with Zelenskyy In a statement they say - "President Zelenskyy confirmed that critical Starlink services remain degraded" - "He also reported disruptions to U.S. intelligence sharing concerning early warning of Russian ballistic missile launches. As a result of these disruptions, civilians – children – are dying. He also raised serious concerns about delays in critical air defense interceptors and the Administration’s decision to waive powerful sanctions against Russia" - ā€œPresident Zelenskyy reiterated his willingness to halt strikes on Russian energy facilities as President Trump has proposed, but only if Putin agrees to the same – a fair request.ā€

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦ Zelenskyy delivers a blunt message to the United States: ā€œJust give us Starlink back. If you refuse, Ukraine will survive. We will continue defending ourselves with or without it. But why would you restrict a country fighting for its survival? Why make it harder for us to defend our people? I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind this decision. It is a mistake.ā€ Ukraine isn’t asking America to fight its war. It’s asking America not to stand in the way of its defense.

In addition to eliminating access for local runners (like me) who frequent East Potomac Park, this would remove significant portions of the Marine Corps Marathon, Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, DC Half & other races that draw tens of thousands of people from all over the world.
Looks like what runners and cyclists feared could come true: Trump’s plans for a new golf course at East Potomac Park seem to eliminate the existing three-mile roads that circles the island. It’s a popular destination for running, riding, and driving access to Hains Point.

This proposed plan is absolutely unacceptable. Here’s what the plan actually does: 36 holes of public golf cut to 18. No more mini golf. No more park. More running / cycling road. No more playground. No more introductory course. Nobody has said a word about the Cherry blossoms. Who is this actually for? Not the kid learning to golf. Not the family in a walk. Not the birders. This was never about the public. It’s for the elitists who want a private showcase, and one man’s ego.
You have got to be f**king kidding me… an 18 hole golf course that fully absorbs the entirety of Hains Point. Disgusting and shameful acts by Department of Interior. We have been saying this for MONTHS.

This design appears to completely eliminate the much-beloved loop road and public park at Hains Point, and cut down the cherry trees which line the road. The park is a public space used by tens of thousands of Washingtonians and heavily visited by tourists. /photos not my own.

A second year of double-digit percent rate increases, due to deliberate decisions by President Trump and Congress, after more than four years of single digit % hikes. ..with the end of enhanced tax credits, Americans' actual experience is seeing their premiums more than double.
Scoop: Healthcare.gov premiums for benchmark plans are set to rise 11% on average in 2027. It's the 2nd year in a row for double-digit spikes but not nearly as bad as last yr's 30%. Insurer participation is down 14%. washingtonsun.com/health/aca…

We don’t use Starlink for our responses inside Russia. We use Starlink to intercept jet-powered ā€œshahedsā€ that attack our civilians and kill families. Starlink wasn’t turned off – its speed was reduced. And when the speed was reduced, we were unable to intercept a certain number of jet-powered ā€œshaheds.ā€ We couldn’t use a tool that helps protect people. That’s very painful and frustrating. We also use Starlink for mid-range strikes against enemy military targets in our temporarily occupied territories. We couldn’t do that when the restrictions were in place. And third, what matters most is people. Our warriors, who spend weeks and months on the front line, receive food and water delivered by drones using Starlink. Has the speed been fully restored to what it was before? No. Is it being restored now? Yes. From a conversation with media representatives in Brussels. (2/3)

Last year, Trump & 98% of elected GOP enacted the biggest Medicaid cuts in history, bigger even than Reagan's cuts. By 2034, 7.5 million people will lose their Medicaid because of it. Clinics are already closing & hospitals are already cutting services, citing BBB as a reason.

Maybe up 2-1! Regardless of your team or the specific policy, maybe we should have a society where people don't make life and job choices based on access to health care.
