Under the Earned Settlement model set out before Parliament today, the right to live in the UK permanently will no longer be granted automatically after five years. Instead, it will be earned. Under the reforms: ➡️The standard route to settlement will double from five to 10 years ➡️ People who enter illegally, including by small boat, face a wait of up to 30 years to settle ➡️ Care workers who meet the visa requirements will retain a five-year route ➡️ Higher earners on more than £50,000, skilled public service workers and refugees arriving on safe and legal routes will be able to settle in five years ➡️ Migrants who claim benefits face a 20-year wait for settlement ➡️ Migrants with a criminal record will be prevented from settling in the UK ➡️ Migrants will be required to meet A-level standard English to settle in the UK

Veteran broadcaster Ezra Tshisa Sibanda speaks to Martin Sibindi, a Kenyan of Zimbabwean descent, born and bred in Nairobi. Sibindi, whose father migrated to Kenya as part of a 1960s religious pilgrimage that included Shonas and Ndebeles, has never been to Zimbabwe before, but has relatives. He is a Kenyan of Zimbabwean origins. Sibindi is a typical Zimbabwean Ndebele surname, historically of South African origins. The surname Sibindi is deeply rooted in the history of South African Ndebele people of the Manala clan, descendants of King Musi, found in KwaMhlanga and other surrounding areas of the Pretoria/Mpumalanga region. King Musi is the foundational ancestor of the South African Ndebeles and their last undivided leader. Sibindi, a Nguni surname, shares common roots and origins with Ndebeles of the Manala, Mabhena, Sikhosana, Mthombeni, Kekana, Mhlanga and Nzuza clans, among others. These clans were raided and assimilated into Zimbabwean founding Ndebele King Mzilikazi's migration party in the 1820s from present-day KwaZulu-Natal to Matabeleland. Mzilikazi defeated and executed Chief Magodonga Mahlangu — a leader of local Ndebele/Nzunza groups in the Transvaal region. A descendant of the Khumalo clan, Mzilikazi lived in Pretoria and surrounding areas, among other places in the Transvaal, for more than a decade during his historically famous breakaway and march from fierce Zulu King Shaka's rule to Zimbabwe; from 1822 arriving in 1840, at the height of Mfecane. Kenya recently officially granted citizenship and national identity cards to about 1 650 to 1 700 members of the ethnic Shona and Ndebele communities, ending over five decades of statelessness. The Shona and Ndebele families originally migrated to Kenya from Zimbabwe and some parts of Zambia in the late 1950s and 1960s as Christian missionaries. There are Zimbabweans living in Zambia for decades. When Kenya became independent in 1963, they missed a narrow registration window, and over the decades, they lost legal ties and documentation to their ancestral countries, leaving multiple generations stateless. On December 12, 2020 during Kenya's Independence Day/Jamhuri Day celebrations, then-president Uhuru Kenyatta directed the recognition and registration of the Shona and Ndebele communities, alongside stateless persons of Rwandan descent.

I am deeply saddened by the collapse today of a multi-storey building under construction in Eastleigh, a busy commercial and residential area of Kenya's capital, Nairobi. The building, believed to be about 18 storeys high, came down with many people feared trapped beneath the rubble. Nairobi police chief Issa Mohamud said more than 10 of its upper floors were still being built. Rescue efforts were hampered when police fired tear gas to disperse crowds after looting broke out at the site, as officers worked to clear the area and give emergency teams access. The surrounding high-rise buildings have made the work even harder. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the building had no occupation certificate, warning that this may have cost lives. Building collapses are a recurring problem in Nairobi, and county officials have been accused of failing to inspect sites properly and make sure developers follow safety rules. An audit of nearly 15,000 buildings by the National Building Inspectorate found that 72.3 percent were unsafe and 4.8 percent were very dangerous. My thoughts are with the families waiting for news of their loved ones, and with the rescue teams working through the rubble.

More than 50,000 attempted small boat crossings have been prevented since July 2024. But as smuggler tactics adapt, so must our response. A further 50 specialist riot officers will be deployed on high-risk crossing days, doubling the dedicated unit to 100 officers.

Global Icon Naomi Campbell has successfully overturned a five year ban preventing her from serving as a charity trustee in England and Wales. A UK tribunal ruled that the supermodel was the victim of “sustained deception” by a fellow trustee and was unaware of serious financial misconduct at her charity, Fashion for Relief. Campbell was originally disqualified in 2024 after an investigation found that only 8.5% of the charity’s spending between 2016 and 2022 went toward charitable grants, with funds also spent on luxury hotels, spa treatments and other unauthorized expenses. The tribunal found Campbell responsible only for failing to ensure the charity filed its accounts on time, but ruled that this did not make her unfit to serve as a trustee. Her five year ban has now been overturned! 🎥Incase you missed this LIVE On News Extra Watch YouTube to Catch Up #NewsExtra #ARISENEWS #NaomiCampbell #EntertainmentNews
