Last night's technical foul on CC was blatantly awful- arguably one of the worst I've seen in decades of playing and watching the game of basketball. And this wasn't some meaningless call in the middle of a game. It was her 8th technical of the season, meaning it would've triggered an automatic one-game suspension. I've watched and played basketball for more than 40 years. Thousands of games, at every level. And I've never seen a superstar consistently get a whistle like this. If anything, stars historically get the benefit of the doubt. With Clark, it feels like officials are actively looking for something to call. Yes, I'm a CC fan. I'm biased. But I'm also comparing what I'm watching to four decades of watching basketball, and what we're seeing isn't normal. But this is bigger than Caitlin Clark. This is her third WNBA season, and where is the improvement in officiating? The NBA and college basketball aren't perfect, but the difference in officiating quality is glaring. And where is the accountability? If a call is so blatantly wrong that the league reviews it and overturns it within TWO HOURS—especially one that would've suspended a player for the next game—there should be consequences for the official who made it. Fine. Suspension. Additional training. Something. Players and coaches are held accountable for their mistakes. Officials should be, too. – at Byron, MN
