#DieLikeACockroach Yesterday, an iron barricade fell from under construction Metro Line 4 at LBS Marg, killing a biker, Wasim Rizvi (54). He was a plumber by profession. Last week, two workers from West Bengal died after an iron scaffolding collapsed when they were climbing down the under construction Bhakti Park Metro Station of same Metro Line 4. Their name was Nahij (33) and Sakim (37). In February, a concrete slab fell from Line 4 on LBS Marg, and crashed onto an auto-rickshaw, instantly crushing Ramdhan Yadav, and injuring three others. As @bytesofnews rightfully pointed out, at this point, we'll have to make a memorial for all the martyrs. Line 4 (Green) should be renamed to Line 0 (Yamraj Line). Each time, @MMRDAOfficial brushes off responsibility and fines the contractors involved a few crores. Contractor? Reliance Infra-Astaldi, yep, that same bankrupt Anil Ambani company that cannot afford to spend a dime to upgrade Line 1. Operate karne ka aukaat hai nai, chala gov contract leke chutiya banane. An FIR is registered, and the sub-contractors + handful of project managers are arrested (scapegoats basically). But, no heads roll at the top. MMRDA acts like an insanely unaccountable org that's a mere paper pusher. DPR, bids, award. It does nothing other than this. And the consequences are visible. 4 deaths, many more instances of debris falling from the elevated station/viaduct, and yet work is never complete. Line 4 is DELAYED by half a decade since construction began in 2018. The 32km line is still far from full commissioning, let's hope the great babus don't spill into 2030s. This line is supposed to help decongest Central Railway, yet another widow-making transport laggard. The delay of Line 4 also has blood on its hands from the Mumbra Curve. MMRDA has equally delayed Line 6 (Pink) on JVLR and Line 2B, even these lines won't be commissioned anytime before 2029. And Line 14 isn't even there on paper yet. The people of Dombivali-Ambernath are already dead meat.
