The Book of Mormon takes place in the ancient Americas and, like the Bible, was written by Jesus Christ's followers. It teaches His gospel and testifies of Him. As you live the teachings found in the Book of Mormon, you can find peace and truth.

O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
27 ¶ Behold, the name of the Lord cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?
15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.

President Dallin H. Oaks taught: “The book of Isaiah contains numerous prophecies that seem to have multiple fulfillments. One seems to involve the people of Isaiah’s day or the circumstances of the next generation. Another meaning, often symbolic, seems to refer to events in the meridian of time, when Jerusalem was destroyed and her people scattered after the crucifixion of the Son of God. Still another meaning or fulfillment of the same prophecy seems to relate to the events attending the Second Coming of the Savior. The fact that many of these prophecies can have multiple meanings underscores the importance of our seeking revelation from the Holy Ghost to help us interpret them” (“Scripture Reading and Revelation,” Ensign, Jan. 1995, 8).

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is preparing a new music collection called Hymns—For Home and Church, which will replace existing hymnbooks and children’s songbooks.
When this project is complete, it will reflect how we, as Latter-day Saints, understand and worship our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
In a similar way, the book of Psalms in the Old Testament served as the ancient hymnbook for God’s covenant people, revealing their feelings about Jehovah and their relationship with Him.
At its core, the book of Psalms is more centered on Jesus Christ and more frequently quoted in the New Testament than any other Old Testament book. The attributes of Jesus Christ, specifically His mercy and grace, are repeatedly emphasized.
The book of Psalms and Hymns—For Home and Church attest to the Savior’s willingness to forgive our sins and mistakes as we exercise faith in Him, and to help us in times of need. Both books encourage us to trust in Him because of His love and compassion.
The book of Psalms praises and extols Jesus Christ for His willingness to forgive repented sin. Through Him, all of Heavenly Father’s children can be saved (see Doctrine and Covenants 76:43). If all are included, then He can save everyone, anyone, even one—even you and me.
Because the Lord is our light and salvation, we can be confident and need not fear anyone. He is our strength (see Psalm 27:1–2). Because of His grace, we can “be still, and know that [He is] God” (Psalm 46:10).
The ending of our stories can be glorious, eternal life in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Because we know the ending, we need not be overly anxious or stressed, even though the journey is suspenseful at times. The book of Psalms teaches us that we can be optimistic and hopeful, despite challenges.

At Nikko in Japan, visitors often pause before a familiar carving of three monkeys—one covering its eyes, one its ears, and one its mouth.
The lesson is simple and memorable: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.
But for disciples of Jesus Christ, avoiding evil is not the end of our responsibility. It is only the beginning.
As children of God blessed with the gift of agency, you and I choose what we will see, whose voice we will hear, and what messages we will speak.

From the Come Follow Me curriculum earlier this year:
In the desert of Sinai, Moses gathered the children of Israel at the foot of a mountain. There the Lord declared that He wanted to turn this group of recently liberated slaves into a mighty people. “Ye shall be unto me,” He said, “a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation” (Exodus 19:6). He promised that they would flourish and prosper, even when surrounded by larger, more powerful enemies.
All this would happen not because the Israelites were numerous or strong or skillful. It would happen, the Lord explained, if they would “obey [His] voice indeed, and keep [His] covenant” (Exodus 19:5). God’s power, not their own, would make them mighty.
Yet the Israelites didn’t always obey God’s voice, and over time they stopped keeping His covenant. Many worshipped other gods and adopted the practices of the cultures around them. They rejected the very thing that made them a distinct nation—their covenant relationship with the Lord. Without God’s power protecting them, there was nothing to stop their enemies.

Because of increased life expectancies and modern timesaving devices, most of us have far more discretionary time than our predecessors. We are accountable for how we use that time. “Thou shalt not idle away thy time,” and “Cease to be idle” (D&C 60:13; 88:124), the Lord commanded the early missionaries and members. “Time flies on wings of lightning,” we sing in a popular hymn; “we cannot call it back. It comes, then passes forward along its onward track. And if we are not mindful, the chance will fade away, for life is quick in passing. ’Tis as a single day” (“Improve the Shining Moments,” Hymns, no. 226).

The world needs righteous, moral, courageous women. Women who know God and their covenant responsibility as His daughters.
"...my dear sisters, your ability to discern truth from error, to be society’s guardians of morality, is crucial in these latter days. And we depend upon you to teach others to do likewise. Let me be very clear about this: if the world loses the moral rectitude of its women, the world will never recover."

Today, September 1, is the 125th anniversary of the dedication of country of Japan for the preaching of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
This weekend, I was grateful to speak at a special nationwide broadcast from a meetinghouse in Yokohama, Japan near the site where the dedication occurred.
The message I shared at the broadcast is the same message that has been preached to millions of people across the globe—that Jesus Christ loves you and what He did through His Atonement is for you, a beloved child of your Heavenly Father.
1 Hearken, O ye Gentiles, and hear the words of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, which he hath commanded me that I should speak concerning you, for, behold he commandeth me that I should write, saying:
2 Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, of your lyings and deceivings, and of your whoredoms, and of your secret abominations, and your idolatries, and of your murders, and your priestcrafts, and your envyings, and your strifes, and from all your wickedness and abominations, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel.
