Sounds like the former USAID programs....
no one wants to admit it, but if the US Government bought 1 billion bushels of Corn at $5/bushel and set it on fire, it would do more for Farmers than +$50 billion dollars worth of subsidies but of course, these programs do not really benefit the Farmers directly, rather the ones they owe money to

jim simons once had a trading model put two-thirds of its cash into potato futures. then the regulators called. his firm was getting close to cornering the market in Maine potato futures. simons couldn't even explain why the model wanted so many. “They think we’re trying to corner the market on spuds!” according to gregory zuckerman’s "The Man Who Solved the Market", the positions were closed out at a cost of millions. the model was called the Piggy Basket.

🔥🔥 Incredible movie, can't believe it's 40 years old. I've always appreciated having a small connection to it as our logistics HQ is in an office where a couple scenes were filmed. @TomCruise next time you're in Chicago come by and play a round! 😂
40 years since making The Color of Money. I had the privilege as a young artist, to have a general meeting with Paul Newman and separately with Martin Scorsese years before making this film, where they shared some of their wisdom on cinema. Of course, I’d seen their films, but prior to meeting them for the first time, I set up a personal study course where I would watch their films in sequence from the beginning of their careers, up until that point in time. After being cast in The Color of Money, I once again studied all of their films in sequence. Having studied their work, then being able to see firsthand these incredible artists, the towering legends of our field, at work on set, I was able to observe their practical application in every aspect of acting and filmmaking from their point of view. I will always be grateful for this opportunity and for the generosity that Newman and Scorsese showed me with their knowledge of cinema and insight throughout the entire process. To Marty, Paul, and the enormously talented cast and crew, it was a pleasure and an honor to be part of this film with you all! I have carried this experience and knowledge with me my entire career.

University of Chicago Students to Protest at Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Demand End to Federal Ban on Onion Futures Student-led group For Our Futures will rally Monday morning to call for repeal of the 1958 Onion Futures Act On Monday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m., members of For Our Futures, a student-led organization from @UChicago, will gather outside the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (@CMEGroup) headquarters to demand the repeal of the Onion Futures Act of 1958, a nearly 70-year-old federal law prohibiting futures trading in onions. The Onion Futures Act, enacted following allegations of market manipulation in the 1950s, singled out onions for a prohibition on futures contracts that remains in effect today. For Our Futures is calling on Congress to repeal the ban and restore the ability of onion growers, buyers, and traders to participate in a regulated futures market. Onions remain the only commodity banned from futures trading in the United States. The protest will feature a giant inflatable onion costume, protest signs, and dozens of students, and will take place outside the headquarters of CME Group, one of the world's largest derivatives marketplaces and the historic center of American onion futures trading. Big yikes. Who's the FreightX insurance resident insurance expert these days? Would this be covered under a cyber security policy?
Cyberattack on French supermarkers. Someone remotely took over refrigeration controllers and made them to defrost. Target temperature set to 50°C. Staff opening freezers in the morning were hit by a wave of hot air. Millions of euros lost. France spent years debating food sovereignty to depend on a firmware update? bfmtv.com/economie/consommat…

Perhaps Washington would make better long term decisions if a few of them had a decent chance of being around in 10 years...
JUST IN: Sen. Chuck Grassley, third in line for the U.S. presidency, files paperwork for reelection in 2028 — would be 101 by the end of his term.

Another angle to this is that dogs effectively stumbled onto what is for them the equivalent of artificial superintelligence 20,000 years ago. The Singularity already happened for dogs. They live in a world they cannot understand, surrounded by miraculous wonders they take entirely for granted, their every need seen to by entities whose thoughts they cannot begin to fathom. The result is that there are about a billion dogs on the planet now. Most of them are pretty happy. Almost none of them need to work. It worked out pretty well for them.

US intelligence guiding the drones hitting Russian refineries and US companies selling the parts to repair them/buying the oil. Like it or not, this kind of posture is why the US has 26% of World GDP, 50% of World Stock Market cap while having ~4.5% of world population.
1/ Russian sources expect that as well as purchasing Russian oil and diesel, Donald Trump will provide Russia with spare parts to repair the refineries damaged by Ukrainian drone strikes. They anticipate that Trump's fuel deal will lead to a Russian victory. ⬇️
